[Report] Luke Witkowski suspended 10 games

Looks like Upchuck said something pretty convincing to get Witkowski back onto the ice. As a player he knows what the automatic penalty for that is...

The refs were pretty quick to kick Witkowski out, yet Upchuck and that gang of window-lickers can all stand around there screaming like banshees and not also get shown the gate.

That's poor "game management" by the officials and made the situation worse as a result.

no way when you are tossed you gotta go.

the fighting is not the issue.  When you get tossed from the game it means you are no longer in the game - you are no longer sanctioned to play - get it? - coming back on the ice is a huge no no.   Agree with 10 games.    He came back on the ice as a non sanctioned participant.   There are legal issue in play here as well.

Not that I'm a huge proponent of fighting etc but yeah, I mean once he was back on the ice and getting 10 games anyway... he should have pummeled the little rats face in IMO.

Of course he'd have to of caught him, hiding behind other players and refs.

Other Flames like Hamonic had already been laid out or tied up.  Interesting how ineffective their truculence without Engelland... mebbe we coulda moved them Pedan and a 2nd for 18YO.

I agree with you

My point was, they tossed one guy, when there were 4 or 5 that were causing the real problem, and one of them in particular (Tkachuck)

If they would have tossed 3 or 4 of those goofs it would be have been done with but instead they end up playing ballerina on ice

Tkachuk should be getting a hefty suspension too in my opinion. He played just as much of a role in the whole fiasco.

Indeed, he's the one that instigated the whole thing.  Flames were upset their boy got whooped, but things had calmed down as Witkowski was already headed out behind the bench when Tkachuk reached in and poked at him.

yes, but not in this case.  He got kicked out of the game.  That means he becomes a non-player.  He returned as a non sanctioned player.  This is a black and white suspension.   And it should be harsh.  But outside of something like this I agree with you.

When you're tossed from the game you have to leave the game? Thanks champ, got it.

I don't think anyone's arguing an obvious and clear rule. The 'perplexing' comes with all the other over or non suspensions they make seemingly at whim.

There's like zero consistency (or accountability). And while yes, this is a hard and fast rule (as it should be), it seems odd a guy would get 10 games for that ^ when DOPS all but ignores or highly downplays far more serious and dangerous 'safety' events (or severely punishes seemingly lesser ones).

yeah there is an issue here of touching a guy after he is in the process of being tossed.  There should be a suspension of some kind for this.     Once the ref decides to toss a player and is escorting him off the ice that means that player is off bounds.

i agree with you, but in this case the issue is the player coming back as a non-participant.   When you get tossed it means you are no longer a player in the game.  It is a legal issue.  Hence the harsh punishment.

Your welcome.   Witkowski didnt get it did he?

You're missing the point. Who cares what Witkowski understands about the rule? Wishy washy handouts from the justice league outside of this incident are not in proportion to this rule, and no amount of your "educating" is going to change how I feel about that.

Automatic for coming back on the ice.

Yes, there's a lot of stuff that should get stronger penalties and suspensions that don't. They need to be a little more consistent all around, but this one was automatic.

Remember, Bertuzzi got tagged for 10 games as well, for leaving the bench to defend Jovo. Funny enough though, when Bert came back his production suddenly exploded.

After my reply, noticing all the other replies that were already saying most of the same. Not trying to overkill the point.

You don't care about it but comment on it, and then seem to think outside incidents are related?
