  1. Hi, 24K PureCool You're fired. - Your boss
  2. Wasn't sure where to post this but since NFTs have been mentioned here, why not here?: *********************************************************************************************************************************************** https://nypost.com/2021/03/18/nyc-man-sells-fart-for-85-cashing-in-on-nft-craze/ The value of this art is all hot air. A Brooklyn-based film director is simultaneously mocking and attempting to profit off the cryptocurrency craze for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by selling a year’s worth of fart audio clips recorded in quarantine. “If people are selling digital art and GIFs, why not sell farts?” Alex Ramírez-Mallis, 36, told The Post of his dank addition to the blockchain-based NFT market. The top bid for the file is currently $183.
  3. This has probably already been mentioned several times but anyone in BC over 18 can sign up to be notified (via email or text) when they are eligible to be vaccinated. That notification, when it comes, will include a link where you can set up your appointment. The site is at: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/getvaccinated.html
  4. The valuation of much art today is, I believe, another example of the Greater Fool Theory. Which theory says something like: you are a fool to pay, say, $10 million dollars for a particular painting unless you're pretty sure that, down the road, some greater fool will come along and pay even more for it. In which case, it's a pretty good investment.
  5. From Wikipedia: "Moiré's PlopEgg No. 1, performed at Art Cologne 2014, was a work of action painting that involved the expelling of paint filled eggs from her vagina on to a canvas, thus creating an abstract work of art.[4] The eggs contained ink and acrylic paint.[5] A video description of the work states "At the end of this almost meditative art birth performance the stained canvas is folded up, smoothed and unfolded to a symmetrically reflected picture, astonishingly coloured and full of [strength]."[6] The folding of the resulting canvas created a work which has been compared to a Rorschach test[7] and a womb.[5] Moiré writes: "To create art, I use the original source of femininity – my vagina."[5]" All righty, should we start the bidding at $45 million?
  6. CBC's "Marketplace" did a short bit on masks and what to watch out for:
  7. That painting is by Mark Rothko. Speaking of whom:
  8. That painting is by Mark Rothko, who I've read a bit about. I was thinking of him while I've been reading this thread. I'm also skeptical about a lot of modern art. But, apparently, there are some people who almost have a spiritual experience viewing Rothko's paintings. For that reason, sometimes I think my skepticism is unwarranted. Perhaps there is something going on in these paintings that I'm simply missing out on and that other people are tuning into.
  9. If they hadn't said anything would anyone other than the curators and the artist have noticed that the work had been 'vandalized'?
  10. Ever since Covid19 appeared, speculation has surrounded how it began. Early on, some suspicions concerned a lab located in Wuhan that studied viruses. These early suspicions were initially discounted. Lately, though, more attention seems to be being paid to the idea. The latest I've seen is tonight's episode of "60 Minutes". They do a 20 minute piece on competing theories of how the virus started. At no time do they endorse the lab theory, but the fact that they include it as one of two competing theories is interesting. The segment can be seen here, starting at around the 1:45 mark: https://www.cbsnews.com/video/60minutes-2021-03-28/
  11. W5 did a 20 minute piece on a religious group in Ontario who are opposed to the Covid lockdown.
  12. But aren't the riding delegates elected by the rank and file members of the party in each riding? If so, they why are these rank and file members sending reformers and social conservatives to the convention to represent their riding if they (the rank and file members) don't agree with those representatives?
  13. I think watching a game at Alabama's home stadium would be a lot of fun. Also, the Banc of California Stadium to see MLS' LAFC play at home. The stadium only seats 22,000 but, from what I've see on television, the crowd is totally into the game.
  14. Or maybe it would show just how morally conservative the members of the Conservative party are?
  15. What on earth did the video have to do with the lyrics of the song? Or does it matter?
  16. Thing is, if they do turf out the "social garbage" they'll lose the support of at least of minority of current Conservative voters. I guess the political question then would be: would they gain more supporters like you who are turned off by their current social policies than they would lose?
  17. Excerpts from a cautionary article from the NY Times: SAN FRANCISCO — This past week, a trading card featuring the quarterback Tom Brady sold for a record $1.3 million. The total value of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin hit $1 trillion. And Christie’s sold a digital artwork by an artist known as Beeple for $69.3 million after bids started at just $100. These seemingly singular events were all connected, part of a series of manias that have gripped the financial world. For months, professional and everyday investors have pushed up the prices of stocks and real estate. Now the frenzy has spilled over into the riskiest — and in some cases, wackiest — assets, including digital ephemera and media, cryptocurrencies, collectibles like trading cards and even sneakers. For now, the bubble-upon-bubble behavior does not appear to pose a systemic risk to the broader financial system. But some investors said they were uneasy. “Most people are cheering, but at the same time, shaking their heads and going, when is the bust coming?” said Jane Leung, the chief investment officer at SVB Private Bank. 18. Something I came across somewhere:
  19. For those, like myself, who haven't been paying too much attention to the Whitecaps offseason activities, a nice recap from the MLS website: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2021/02/04/mls-western-conference-roster-build-status-armchair-analyst?utm_source=TWIM&utm_medium=Email&utm_content=TwimStory1&utm_campaign=MLSTWIM20210318_NoSchedule_Dynamic Vancouver Whitecaps FC The Offseason So Far: They've been moving slowly, mostly trimming the edges of the roster. The only regular contributor from 2020 who looks like he's not coming back in 2021 is veteran center forward Fredy Montero -- an understandable decision given that's an area of depth for the 'Caps. One of the reasons it's an area of depth is the arrival of first-round SuperDraft pick David Egbo, who went ninth overall. Egbo's not expected to play a ton in 2021, but he'll be useful when Lucas Cavallini and Tosaint Ricketts are on international duty with Canada. Deiber Caicedo is, at this point, the only other official arrival, and he is expected to play a ton. The 20-year-old Colombian youth international already has around 4000 first-team minutes, which means he's not purely a young prospect: he's got to contribute. They really don't need to make any other signings. Except for one. What's Next: Vancouver need their own Lucas Zelarayan or Bebelo Reynoso. This team is dying for a DP No. 10, and they have been linked to both Porto's Otavio and Benfica's Chiquinho. Sign either one of those guys and this offseason's a success. That said, they'd still be a little light on the wings. Caicedo shouldn't be the only incoming winger, and I doubt he will be. March 17 Update: Vancouver went HAM over the past month, getting right back Bruno Gaspar -- a likely starter -- on loan from Sporting CP in Lisbon, and then pilfering 22-year-old Brazilian central midfielder Caio Alexandre from cash-strapped Botafogo. Both of those look, on the face of it, like shrewd moves for starting-caliber players on a budget. Local podcasts have begun calling it the Nikos Overheul Effect after the newly hired director off recruiting. Overheul -- or someone else in the front office -- still needs to find this team a DP No. 10. Once they check that box, this team will actually look quite good.
  20. Regarding the title of this thread: Damn right people are being persecuted for their political beliefs! If even a sports celebrity like former MLB star Johnny Damon can be harrassed by the police simply for being a Trump supporter, is anyone safe? (In the event you don't want to watch the whole thing and are wondering about the Trump part, jump to about 7:45.)
  21. Just to be clear: I'm not saying the woman was telling the truth. I'm saying I don't know if she was telling the truth or not and I don't think there's enough evidence in the video to call it one way or the other. And I was surprised at how quickly some people here jumped to the conclusion that she was lying.
  22. I'm not sure if you're being facetious or not. But I think that could be the case.
  23. Re: your first point: C'mon, none of us here can tell what issues she might have from her voice on the video. Re: your second point: No, I couldn't read it. But in an earlier post you critized her for filming the incident at all. Now you're criticizing her for not including enough details? In any event, from the Translink website: https://www.translink.ca/rider-guide/coronavirus-precautions#ministerial-order-on-mask-use TransLink will suspend the issuance of exemption cards given we are not able to exempt customers from a Ministerial Order. The Ministerial Order does exempt persons from wearing masks in some circumstances. Transit Police will conduct standard inquiries with any customer not wearing an appropriate mask or face covering, whether they hold a TransLink issued exemption card or not.
