  1. Toronto gets absolutely roasted value wise. Yikes. Baer is greatly underrated here, but his injury history hurts his trade value massively. There was questions if whether or not he’d ever play again. Hutton had a good year. But his numbers are good for a 3rd pairing d-man. He can slot in top 4 temporarily but not an ideal top 4 d-man. If I’m Toronto I hang up on you before you even finish your pitch.
  2. I really don't see the problem with Russians going to Russia. It means they aren't good enough for the NHL. If Lind fails to make the NHL are we gonna stop drafting Canadians or players from the WHL? No, cause that'd be dumb. Tryamkin example is weak too, he left for family reasons. I don't blame a guy for putting his family first. Hockey is just a game and we take the game way too seriously. It's part of our charm since it makes the forum so lively but it also sucks cause we take these players for granted. Making the blanket decision to swear off Russians cause they prefer to develop somewhere comfortable is dumb. Or they go back to Russia cause they flat out aren't good enough for the NHL or even leave for family reasons some things are more important than slapping a puck around in a foreign country. There are misses in all areas of the draft from all walks of life. It just so happens we notice the Russians cause when they fizzle out they leave NA. We didn't swear off Swedes after Rodin failed in the AHL then returned to Sweden. We shouldn't swear off Russians cause they do the same. If Benning passes on Podkolzin purely because of him being Russian I'd want him fired tbh. It's a shortminded thing to do. There is too much elite talent with Podkolzin to pass on him at 10 because Tryamkin left to Russia because of his family. With that said, I really wouldn't know Benning's exact reason if he drafted someone else in place of Podkolzin at 10. I doubt Benning would pass on him though. If half of what is said about Podkolzin is true he's a Benning guy. Competes all over the ice, great IQ, very good skater.
  3. Good thing we didn't pass on that guy Bure for being Russian. Such a short sighted reason to pass on a guy. But hey, to each their own. Hopefully management is a bit more open minded about who they take and why.
  4. What does any of this have to do with what I said? We'll very likely get our guy at 10, so why take a lesser player on a longer deal with a NMC to move up 2 spots? Anything short of Byram being at 8 isn't worth moving up 2 spots. And if Byram were there why would Edmonton pass him up? Lucic will be 31 to start next season with 4 years remaining on his deal. Are we actually trading for the slug on the hope that for some reason being in Vancouver is gonna de-age him 5-10 years? If he can't produce with arguably two of the most talented youngsters in the game right now why do we think he'll produce here? Is there some magic hipster juice in Vancouver? Pettersson is good but damn, he already has one average skater on his line wanna stick a slug on the line with em too?
  5. I would not want Holland running my team if I were an Edmonton fan tbh.
  6. 4 more years for Lucic with NMC compared to Eriksson's 3 years and no NMC. That alone makes it not worth it to move up 2 spots in the draft. We'll very likely draft a guy at 8 that we can get at 10.
  7. I like a lot of what I am reading of Seider, this included. Sure would be nice to have two 1st rounders. Not sure Benning goes off the board to grab Seider nor do I think he'd trade down for him. Only way I'd advocate a trade down is if we got two 1st rounders. Not a late 1st and a late 2nd.
  8. If we are getting rid of Eriksson I'd like for it to not involve us getting a worse player back that is equally as expensive. Having one fewer years on that contract is nice and all but we aren't gonna be desperate for cap in 3 years. Move Eriksson, expend a 2nd or 3rd rounder for someone to take him. But don't take a bad player back just for the sake of making a move.
  9. No it doesn’t when talking about the draft. Every year it’s different players being drafted by different teams with different GMs. History means nothing.
  10. Even EA would laugh in your face if you offered this.
  11. If they ate over half his yearly cap hit? Sounds like he is exactly as bad and slow as people say if Edmonton needs to eat more of his contract than they are allowed to for you to take him. Lol.
  12. Cause a guy that was trade by 2 teams cause he refused to sign with them eventually signed with his hometown team?
  13. Referenced a good many Canadian comparables but said no to the Russian. Interesting. Do you actually know anything about him other than his nationality? Cause from what I am reading he's got a good compete level in all areas of the ice. And is even trusted in key defensive assignments by his coaches. He's 6'1 190, good size especially for someone so young. Sounds like the only major downside to him is whether or not he comes to North America sooner rather than later. He is signed with a KHL team until the 20/21 season. Which does kind of stink, I'll give you that. Especially since it sounds like he's pretty close to NHL ready. I'd understand passing on him if you think it's a waste of time to draft a kid that won't be around for 2 years, but even then lets be real these are all teenagers. How many of them will actually be NHL ready in 2 years. Let alone making huge waves as 20 year olds. The lack of patience isn't a good reason to pass on a kid that has a rocket of a shot, good skating, and apparently competes hard in all areas of the ice. His potential is sky high and if he's around at 10 we'd be stupid to say "huge pass" on that kind of talent. But hey, that might just be me.
  14. Had a slow finish to the regular season and only 2 points in 7 playoff games. He won't be that expensive either.
  15. I don't see Byram dropping past Detroit. And Cozens dropping to 10? That'd have me worried about taking him personally considering most of the experts I see has him as a top 5ish guy. Guy has good size, great skating, great shot, and from what I am reading has great hockey sense. Not to mention is a center, a team will take a shot at him well before us for that reason alone. Centers are a hot commodity at the draft. So much so that a guy that wasn't even in anyone's top 10 was drafted top 5 last summer. We shall see though. Draft day anything can happen.
  16. If Anders Lee goes to Free Agency I'd be very interested in him. Eberle too, to a lesser extent though. I know people are still crying about Eriksson and Gagner but no sense crying over spilled milk.
  17. As much as many of us disliked his work, this is very sad to hear. He was quite young still. Thoughts go out to his family.
  18. To be fair, Edmonton was kinda peeved cause they offered a greater package for Schneider. Which I think included their 7th/8th overall pick. But yeah I doubt Markstrom would net a 8th overall pick on his own. Maybe if Chia pet was still in charge you could argue it.
  19. This draft is overrated (specifically the top end), you don't want to move up in this draft. There are a lot of wild card players in the 10 range that could very likely be the best players in the draft.
  20. No, he isn’t. He brings zero offence and physicality. He’s borderline Ron Hainsey if anything. And I said nobody wants Tanev Leivo and a middling pick. I said a bunch of bottom 6 forwards cause both forwards you suggested are bottom 6.
  21. Until the draft order is set in stone it's tough to tell who is drafting there and whether or not they'd be willing to move their picks. And even then what makes you think anyone wants Leivo, Sutter, or Tanev for their 1st rounder? If you are giving up a 1st rounder it better be for at least a top 4 d-man or a top 6 forward. Not a bunch of bottom 6 forwards and a often injured borderline 3rd pairing d-man with some middling picks.
  22. May never live long enough to see either team win it all. I like the general make up of the next core. Petey, Bo, Boeser, and Hughes all look very solid.
  23. *Looks at height on google, makes preconceived judgement based off that and that alone with no other information* CDC's scouting at it's finest.
  24. I am down for Stralman, only if we move Tanev beforehand, he'd be a better vet presence than Tanman purely on the fact I'd bet he'd be healthier than Tanman. Ferland would be interesting though. A decent top 6 scorer, brings some physicality, and 4.5 seems quite cheap. Considering Wilson is making more and is a similar player. The other deals are an easy pass for me.
