    There's a massive forest fire in Siberia right now.

      I believe those are from clathrates (methane trapped in ice) in sea beds.  Somewhat similar to the methane trapped in permafrost, just trapped in the sea bed.

      What will all that methane released cause?  Does it being trapped there have any correlation to the evolutionary development of us - people?

      drats, we usually end up with poor air quality in the bulkley valley from it.....the smoke travels a long way...it got really bad here when they had the mongolian fires....
