I'm going to assert that The Pacific was a better structured and more visceral mini series than Band of Brothers. That said, I love both. Just wish more appreciated the beauty of the Pacific. It really is no competition between the two movies, one is a late night soap executed by an immensely talented cast and crew while the other is probably something you've never watched before and with a plot that is leagues above Gone Girl. I'm so happy about Gyllenhaal, given the trend in his choice of roles the last couple years I think he's just about to enter his peak. Seriously, aside from Love and Other Drugs and Prince of Persia I can't think of many films he's been in that I didn't enjoy immensely. Jarhead, Zodiac, End of Watch, Nightcrawler, Source Code, Brokeback Mountain, Donnie Darko...good stuff. I think his performance in Nightcrawler is worthy of Oscar buzz. Given that he's more than willing to drop a few pounds and shed his pretty boy status in change of a grizzled one, someone needs to get him a season on True Detective.
