  1. Just curious, which wingers would you like to see the Canucks target? As far as guys that might still be on the board, Guenther, Sillinger and Lysell really jump out for me.
  2. Hahaha not to hijack your post, but this is exactly what I did too! So relieved about Clark! Everything else is just icing on the cake.
  3. I agree. Recency bias is truly a powerful factor in decision making. These two write ups about him from http://www.mynhldraft.com/2021-nhl-draft/player-profiles/Dylan-Guenther really make me believe that he’s a far more well rounded player than just the goal scorer that myself and some others have been pegging him as: Dylan Guenther's Player Profile Steve Kournianos - The Draft Analyst - May 24th: "He may look wiry, but this dual-threat from the flank is an excellent penalty killer who also plays with snarl."Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - May 12th: "Thinks the game at a high level and is constantly utilizing all resources to improve his game. While offence is what jumps out, the proficiency in his game extends the length of the ice."
  4. That’s a good idea. I honestly hadn’t thought of that. I think if Buffalo picks Power then there is a reasonable chance that SEA goes with Wallstedt. But if Buffalo goes with anyone else, then I imagine SEA will take Power. I really hope that Wallstedt does go anywhere before our pick because that will mean that Benning and co will have their choice between two of the players in which seems to be shaking out to be the top nine this year: Power Beniers Edvinsson Clarke Eklund Hughes Guenther McTavish Johnson Of course a few of those names will certainly by off the board by the time we pick; Power and Beniers come to mind. Then again maybe Benning is targeting one of the other many talented players, such as Sillinger, Lucius, Lysell, Svechkov, etc. My gut tells me that if it’s anyone outside of the nine listed above that it’s Sillinger. I did find it interesting though that the other day Benning did mention that there are nine players he really likes and that there really does (IMO) seem to be nine players that are rounding out the top of this draft.
  5. I say “fall into our lap” because I feel that he’s the exact type of player that we need. Then again so too is Brandt Clarke but I’m not holding out hope that we land him. in regards to those rankings on elite prospects, the majority of the rankings that have him lower are older rankings, such as Dobber which was from March, and Nuetral Zone which was from December, and SMAHT Scouting which were “Winter Rankings.” McTavish did a lot to raise his stock over the course of the year.
  6. I really hope that this mock draft is right because it would mean that McTavish falls in our lap! https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/nhl-top-15-mock-draft-sabres-position-take-owen-power-first-overall/ It’s interesting that they didn’t have Wallstedt anywhere in the top 15.
  7. Based on stats alone, Power really looks to have come to life in the world hockey championship the last two games. He’s logging a ton of minutes (2nd most minutes a few games ago, and by far the most mins in today’s game) and he’s putting up points too. The best part is that this all against men.
  8. Beautiful goal by Beniers at the world hockey championships today. https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2021/wm/gamecenter/video/24373/30-usa-vs-lat
  9. It’s very interesting that you don’t have Power in there. I must say though that based on stats alone (as I haven’t been watching the tourney) he seems to be struggling at the world championship right now. Another -2 today. Then again the whole Canadian team seems to be struggling. Eklund has been making his way up in my list. He and Clarke are the two players I think I would like to see the Nucks target if we win one of the lottery picks.
  10. I wonder if Eichel possibly being on his way out this year encourages the Sabres to draft Benieres?
  11. I’m a little indifferent to this news. What’s truly important to me is that the Canucks lock up Ian Clark to a long term contract stat.
  12. This my personal list, in order, of the players that I’d love to see the Canucks pick: Brandt Clarke, RHD Matthew Beniers, C/W Owen Power, LHD Luke Hughes, LHD William Eklund, C/W Kent Johnson, C Simon Edvinsson, LHD Dylan Guenther, C/W Mason McTavish, C Fabian Lysell, RW Chaz Lucius, C Cole Sillinger, LW Corson Ceulemans, RHD It’s going to be very interesting to see where the goalie, Jesper Wallstedt is picked. That could bump a very good player down to us!
  13. Crazier things have happened. Even having Quinn Hughes fall to us at 7 was pretty miraculous. Also this site has Clarke going 8th: http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/ I’d be entirely shocked if Clarke fell out of the top 5 though. I might get flamed for this, but the one of the big four D men that I could see possibly falling a touch is actually Hughes. Then again he could just as easily go second overall though. It’s such a wonky draft this year lol
  14. This right here. We’re going to have some high quality players to choose from. I would’ve loved one of the big four D men but I’m not getting my hopes up for that anymore. It could still happen though. My gut is telling me that McTavish will be the guy this year, and that would be pretty awesome. Unless Eklund happens to fall, in which case I can’t see the Nucks passing on a Swede of that caliber.
  15. What’s your take on Chaz Lucius? The guy puts up insane numbers everywhere he goes and is apparently very competitive. I can’t help but think that if he was able to play in the U18 tourney that his stock would be soaring right now (but maybe not). If we somehow end up picking near the 10 spot I would be very happy with this selection. I think that there will be a lot of solid players to choose from though in that spot; Lucius, McTavish, Johnson, and Lysell could almost all still be on the board.
  16. Lol! Can I nominate this for post of the year? So good!
  17. In classic Canuck fashion we will screw up this screwed up season by sweeping the flames in our final four games against them lol! Come on Brandt Clarke!
  18. I still feel sick about this trade. I’ve never once uttered the words “fire Benning,” but after this trade, and with every game that has passed since, I think I’m ready to say it lol
  19. For me it’s a very tough call between Guenther and Eklund. I’m leaning more towards Guenther though.
  20. A lot of people yes, but definitely not everyone. I watched this kid play a lot of junior games and I was staggered by how simple his North / South game was and how low his hockey IQ was. I’ve never seen him turning into more that a third liner who could bang (only when he feels into it) and pop in some goals now and then and I’ve been very vocal about that. You’re completely right though, when we allotted a chunk of our limited salary cap to him over Tofolli the season was off to a bad start.
  21. Great list. Thank you. Every draft I allow myself to dream big, and this year those dreams consist of winning a lottery pick and taking Clarke, and then somehow getting another first round pick and taking Wallstedt. Loading up the back end like that could be a proper recipe for future success.
  22. It sounds like there a lot of high end D men that are going to go early in this draft. I truly hope we manage snag one of them. I just hope we pick the one who is the best on the defensive side of the game. We already have Hughes who can rack up points and run the power play, but now we just need another high caliber defender who is elite on the defensive side of the game.
  23. I still don’t understand how Jake’s horrible playoff performance awarded him a two year contract. He did have a decent regular season, but when the hockey mattered most he made like Houdini and disappeared.
  24. I am such a big fan of Hoglander. His game, his interviews, his confidence. This kid is an absolute steal with the 40th pick. We came from having the big five players on our team, to now having the big six IMO. And so many other nice pieces around those six to boot (Demko, Schmidt, Motte, Podz eventually, and more of course). I’m loving the way our roster is shaping up.
