  1. This sounds like the worst idea I've heard since the last time you posted it. That's how 5 year olds operate lol.
  2. Delia is brutal. No way he's the backup next year. There are 10 minimum wage goalies better than that.
  3. I would imagine both will be competing for a job. Wolanin performed adequately but I wouldn't say he's cemented a spot.
  4. Dumb Super super dumb. Unless the league or the Canucks are folding no way should they be selling the future for next year.
  5. It's definitely a monumental task. They are going to have to be extremely tricky or creative to move crappy contracts and replace them with preferably younger, but more importantly better players, and they have to save 4 mil or so while they do it. The only obvious way to for sure to upgrade may be dumping our next 2 first rounders, including our 2023 pick. Otherwise we may need some magic moves or super player insight and a cheap signing from Allvin and co. This route would be very risky though if they expect results.
  6. If Bear is in the top 4 we're done I think. I sure hope that's not the plan. I wouldn't pay him more than $1.3 maybe as a 7th defender. Even then I'm not sold. Please don't let this be the plan or I'm sliding back to give-up mode unfortunately.
  7. Exactly, as if it's that simple that 23 guys just happened to show up horribly out of shape and it's just easy to flip a switch and then win the division next year. Like you said it's an easy sell to some but not at all accurate.
  8. Yup I agree with all of this just not that fitness and goaltending is the only issue and with that we're a playoff team. We also need to be better personnel wise. It doesn't matter how fit we are if we roll out the exact same team we'll be on the outside looking in. Maybe a 15% of grabbing the last spot. It's a massive task for management but I am hopeful they are up to it and make some positive ground up there. It may involve trading this or next years first though, or being extremely creative. The biggest obstacle is finding a top 4 RD and affording him. In that respect it's also a positive that we don't need many moves, just 2 or 3 good ones.
  9. Probably true but if we're in a playoff spot he's probably a starter for us so we'd have to find a replacement at the same time. Not impossible by any means but it's a little tricky in that we ideally replace him with a better player for less money. A couple moving parts there as you definitely don't want to take parts away from the team.
  10. Hopefully the Canucks management team is not thinking this way. That's a great way to be over-confident and lazy with our approach based on nothing but hopes and dreams. Completely wrong attitude. If the players and management take this approach we will almost assuredly miss out again. This team needs to get better. As currently constructed it is clearly not good enough, and hasn't been good enough for years. It's time to actually figure out how to improve the team in order to be competitive and stop resting on our laurels. I do have faith it can be done. It's tricky but our little run this year is not sustainable winning hockey in this league, just like last year.
  11. I really like him when I see him play but he's got transferability questions. He's listed at 166 on hockey db. That's a little small if accurate but he finds a way to get it done. If he makes it and plays the same way he'll be a terrific pick.
  12. That's great in theory but I don't see them waiving a 6 mil, 13 year vet, his family, and threatening his job. It would be nice tbh but our organization isn't known for that and I don't think they want to start treating players like that. Also, if we're shopping him to a bottom feeder anyway this theory makes no sense. Like @IBatch said don't get your hopes up. I personally would be ecstatic.
  13. The thing is if he wants to play with Petey and score a lot, and in order for the team to succeed he also has to play tough defence so that line can play a lot and handle other teams top players. Otherwise he'll have to play on the third line and as we've seen he's not as good on his own, nor does he generate the same offence.
  14. Yup by the time we get to the TDL we'll need a RD and unless we can swap him for someone better the logistics may not work. On top of that there may be zero market.
  15. Yeah, I would like to keep our first this year but at this point we might as well trade either this year or next years first for a good RD, especially if we could include Myers alongside in trade. Really wish JB would have kept his cool on the OEL front. Now would have been the time to trade our first to plug holes.
  16. Well stated. Building for longevity doesn't mean a full rebuild. I also wanted to trade JT for the obvious reasons you've listed and the short all in contention window it creates. Having said that JT rebounded nicely after a rocky start and if he keeps his play up he's a very strong player who adds lots of offence and definitely could contribute to a winning team. The team needs a lot of stuff to play out though as you've mentioned. One positive is that this management group has been getting better as they go. I have some belief they will be at least able to get us close. My concern is it will only be for next year before the bills are due.
  17. Agreed on Bear I don't like him at all. I think management is trying to re-sign him but that leaves us with a poor defence once again if we can't improve at that spot. He's Myers level bad just not as big. He doesn't take countless needless penalties though. I wouldn't mind having him as a bench support but if he's starting we're in trouble. I would start Johannsen or McWard before him.
  18. I never wanted a full tear down just more reasonable spending, a cap reset, and an eye to building with the future, present, and longevity in mind. However, I've decided I'm going to try to be more positive as it seems a portion of cdc gets really annoyed when people are critical and realistic.. Okay, starting now. The margins are super tight but on the upside we could be competitive with a couple shrewd moves. One quality RD added to Hronek would shore up the defence quite a bit. How they shed cap and add that player is hopefully something management can swing. A real 3C is also needed and a backup goalie. We're all in so like you I'm hoping for the best. I am quite interested how they go about the off-season so that's something to look forward to. He's really intriguing. Could end up being a steal. Lots to like as he's got the size, plays heavy, and started putting up some good point totals as the season progressed. Agreed though it's a reach for sure.
  19. People also assume Gavrikov will just re-sign here for peanuts. We might end up with an AHL defence again if we go that route. Whatever happens tonnes of risk and we really have to hope management nail it. I would love to be watching meaningful Canucks hockey next spring.
