  1. With all the hoopla of Van trading away the 9th pick I thought I'd see what people thought of this as a way to to get back in the 1st round. To Wpg: Nate Schmidt + 2021 5th round pick (we have 2) To Van: 2021 1st round pick (17th overall) Why Winnipeg does this: GM Chevy has never been shy about trading his 1st's for a good roster player and Schmidt fills a big hole on their D roster at a decent cap hit and he has term left which is something Chevy covets in his acquired players. I added the 5th because a straight up swap just didn't seem plausible lol Why Van does this: Pretty self explanatory, get back in the 1st round and be in a position to grab someone like Ceulemans or Lambos.
  2. I have to begrudgingly admit I don't hate this trade. I was sure I would as soon as I saw the words 'Trade' 'OEL' and '9th overall'. But this is actually pretty good. We just acquired a youngish top 6 forward and a top 4d without giving up any roster players, basically the only real cost to us is the 1st, 2nd and 7th. We also moved out $12m in dead cap for $7m in a player that can play. This now gives us over $19m in cap space, almost $23m if you include Ferlands LTIR. With that space all we have to do now is resign Petey, Quinn, Dickinson and Garland. Probably not enough to quite get all that done but if the rumors from just ahead of the expansion draft about multiple teams wanting to acquire Holtby are true and he gets moved for a mid pick and then moving Schmidt for a late 1st or a 2nd and another mid pick. This gives us over $33m in space to resign them and go after a couple of UFAs to fill any holes in our defense and get a cheap backup.
  3. But what would TB use as payment to offload Johnson? It just cost Philly a 2nd and a 7th to unload Gostisbehere for no return when he is 3 years younger, signed for a lower cap hit and put up almost identical numbers to TJ as a dman. Not to mention teams know TB is desperate for cap space and are going to charge a premium. Minimum sweetener would have to be 2022 1st rounder which would mean that over this draft and the next one TB would have 1 pick in the first 3 rounds.
  4. The problem TB has is that, yes they are now currently under the cap by about $750,000 but they only have 11 forwards, 5 dmen and 1 goalie signed. Even 1 league minimum contract puts them right back against the cap and they need to add about 6 players. Buying out TJ will help them but it won't be enough, it's going to be interesting to watch what kind of creative solution they come up with to get compliant, or which player needs surgery to miss all season and come back for the playoffs.
  5. Just over 30 hours until all the speculation ends and Vancouver gets to announce their new top prospect. Really hoping for: 1. Clarke 2. Svechkov 3. McTavish 4. Hughes 5. Johnson That's the order I have them in for our pick but wouldn't be disappointed or upset if one of the lower ones was taken with a higher one available. Any one of those would be a fantastic addition to the team. I know it's not the popular opinion but I'd also be really happy if we traded down and got an extra 2nd round pick and maybe a late pick as well and then took Ceulemans. I still think he is going to be one of the best dmen in this class and is just suffering from limited playing time this year and is going to have a big year at the U of Wisconsin.
  6. Not interested in giving up any assets to dump his contract, I don't want any buyouts this year either. Deal with him and the others for one more year and have over 23 million in cap space for next offseason. We only have Boeser as major contracts to sign next year with minor resignings of Motte, MacEwen and Rathbone. Then go after a couple of big name free agents next year, I get that it's still early and a lot can happen between now and then as far as players resigning with their current teams, but next year's free agent class is far more impressive than this year's. Free agents next year include names like Malkin, Giroux, Barkov, Forsberg, Hertl, Jones, Parayko, Reilly, Couturier, Klingberg, Manson, Perron, Colin Miller, Murphy, Rakell, Jenner, Ekholm and a bunch more, and those are just from the UFA class nevermind the RFAs we could potentially offer sheet.
  7. I can't figure this trade out at all but I guess 3.5 - 4 million is a lot of money to bet on a 25 year old goalie with only 29 career NHL games. But still, seems weird. And this doesn't really help them much as even after this trade the Canes have no goalies signed for next season.
  8. That is very true but mistakes happen. Don't forget about when a member of the Lightning staff lost their draft sheet in the hotel lobby in Buffalo and someone posted it on social media. Edit: Formatting issue
  9. I want him for what he does/brings on the ice. Off the ice is an entirely separate issue and puts him in to the do not draft column in my book.
  10. Not true at all. Sure the original roster submitted earlier today maybe leaked but any trades made by Seattle won't be announced until tonight. Last time Vegas announced 10 trades after the roster was submitted. Still lots of potential changes to their roster.
  11. I guess Colorado is just a terrible team then. They are about to "just lose" their captain as a UFA for nothing. Landeskog must be sick of all the losing and crappy management in Colorado. They should of traded him for picks and prospects at the deadline, that would of shown all the players staying behind how committed to winning and building a successful team they are.
  12. I agree that Aldrich is responsible for his own actions and needs to be fully brought to justice but the FACT is that the Blackhawks organization knew this man committed sexual assault and did nothing as well as giving him a good recommendation to get a new job working with young people. What you're saying is like saying the Catholic Church bears little to no responsibility for knowingly shuffling pedophile priests around the world to avoid them getting in trouble and then letting them to continue to work with children.
  13. Not to mention the kids agent sounds like human garbage. When asked for a statement he originally referred the writer back to Maillouxs apology statement but shortly after reached out saying he wanted to provide information to give context to the situation but that it was to be strictly off the record. When the writer informed him he was only looking for on the record information the agent responded with "sounds like the motivation here is very clear". The agent also added that he wanted to provide off the record context before "the angry cancel culture mob gets (Mailloux) in its grasp" Edit: Just thought I'd add the kids agent that said these things is named Dylan Liptrap Anyway getting to more team relevant draft day topics, I'm really torn on what I want to see happen with our first pick. I would be really happy if we got one of McTavish, Svechkov or even Guenther. I'm very doubtful that Clarke will be there and I'm really not sold on Johnson, I'm concerned about how much he plays from the perimeter although his skill level in the NCAA is undeniable. I'd also be happy with dropping back a few spots and taking Ceulemans, he's someone I've watched everything I can on and really feel like he's going to exceed expectations, especially if it means we can get an extra 2nd rounder now that we've traded this year's 3rd for Dickinson.
  14. The bold is just part of your glaring ignorance when it comes to this player. You claim to of 'watched him more than anyone else on here' and know more about him than other CDC users and yet you keep repeating that he is only 'under contract for 1 year' He is not under contract for 1 year... He is a RFA with arbitration rights. He is currently UNSIGNED and is in need of a new contract. Is he going to be the savior of the Canucks and carry the team to a Stanley Cup? No, and no one here is saying that he will. But you just seem to want to trash every move this team makes just for the sake of trashing the team. You want to keep bringing up that he is currently a 0.3 ppg career player but you don't want to mention that he spent most of last season on a line with an offensively struggling Benn and Gurianov, consistently matching up against and shutting down the other teams top two lines. You also want to keep mentioning that he has a career faceoff percentage of 44.3% and that you want a 3C that 'can take defensive zone draws away from Horvat'. But you don't mention that Dickinson has gotten better at faceoffs every year for the last 3 years, almost as if players can improve with practice... to the point of being almost 47% at draws last season. And as for taking defensive draws Dickinson started over 60% of his shifts last season in the d zone and had the 2nd most shorthanded ice time of any Dallas forward. Clearly his last coach trusted him and his skills to use him in d zone faceoffs. You can keep quoting off your surface level 5 second Google search stats but a little bit of in depth research shows very quickly how little you actually know about this player despite you claims of superior knowledge.
  15. Cuz it's such a horrible thing when a team that surrendered the 3rd most shots against last season goes out and acquires a 26 year old player that is one of the best forwards in the entire NHL at suppressing shots from the opposition at the cost of a 3rd round pick. Does that mean that he will continue his defensive excellence with his new team? No. Does that mean he will flop with his new team? No. Does his past 3 seasons and fit with his new team provide ample reason for optimism? Absolutely. This a player that fills a need on the team and does it at a very high level at what should end up being a very reasonable cost. Not to mention his age that suggests he is just now reaching his physical prime. He may end up being 'one dimensional' but if he is one of the best players in the league at that one dimension that is critical in winning close hockey games then it's well worth it.
  16. Exactly. Look at the Schneider trade, we got 9OA pick in the draft from NJ and took Horvat despite both of Cgy and Edm offering us a higher pick in that draft plus a prospect and a player. All because Gillis didn't want to trade Schneider in the division or conference, maybe Sakic had the same type of plan and we were never going to be considered as a trading partner no matter the offer.
  17. Hey now, this is CDC, where you can't use facts to prove anything. Edit: I think I hate trade scenario B the least. Would rather trade a player than another high pick at this point.
  18. Really like this player and would definitely be excited if ends up as our guy. Just an added bonus of making SKA even more angry at our franchise for taking another top prospect out of their system. Karma for how they treated Podkolzin when he made it clear he was coming to the NHL Edit: If he wasn't an LHD, but even still, maybe we should draft Kirill Kirsanov in the 2nd or 3rd round. The last remaining of SKAs top prospects and someone regarded as possibly the best defensive dman in the draft.
  19. Lol can't do much worse than 2019. Super excited to see how this years draft unfolds in just over 240 hours.
  20. Yeah, sounds about right. It's been amazing how almost every time the league has made a change over the last 2 decades it seems to always come around and effect the Canucks in a negative way. I'm not trying to say it's intentional or a conspiracy, just sucks how it usually works out. Anyway, back on topic, I'm hoping we go after 2 guys like Foegle, Kuraly, Coleman or Goodrow if possible on 2-3 year deals. And then maybe Brett Ritchie and Riley Sheahan on something closer to league minimum.
  21. So then after this season I guess Quinn is a bum that doesn't belong in the NHL either?
  22. Barrie isn't THAT big of a liability in his own zone. He does manage to have nearly an even Corsi and Fenwick at 5 on 5 and was 2nd in +/- among defencemen on the team despite putting up almost half his points on the PP. Is he a shutdown defender that makes scoring and playing difficult for his opponents every night? No. But he is still a solid 2nd pairing, PP1 defenceman in the NHL.
  23. I would absolutely be in favor of signing either of these players on a cheap, short term 'show me' contract a la Perry or Thornton, especially since both are still being paid millions by Minny. Whether or not they are willing is a completely different story.
