  1. Manson - love him but so does every team in the league. Someone will over pay / over term him. No chance he signs a 4 year deal. So 5 years yes, 6 given how he plays not sure I want him. But hey never know Nick Paul or Copp- Yes please Delauariers - Yes please Zadorov - Yes please Lyubushkin - Yes please Forsberg - If Miller/Horvat or Boeser gone Lines - Assuming Miller is gone (and sadly we won't get all of these guys but if we did!) Forsberg Petey Podz Garland Bo Boeser Pearson Paul/Copp Hoglander Delauriers Lammiko Lockwood OEL Zadorov (shut down and hard minutes) Hughes Schenn Rathbone Lyubuskin Burroughs/Dermott Demko Martin I think that is a heck of a team and it ignores the returns for Myers and Miller which the latter should be substantial
  2. How many 50 pt players are paid 7 mil? Love what Bo brings but don't let emotion and he's a canuck blind you on worth. JR and Alvin won't be blinded by that for certain.
  3. You can be a "hockey fan" and cheer for many teams. I love the canucks, and they are the team I want to see win a cup. But I also love hockey and enjoy watching Crosby and the Pens, I enjoy watching the Leafs, Tampa, Colorado, even Edmonton the way Connor has elevated his game. Do I want those teams to win a cup over the Canucks, hell no, but I'll cheer for them if the Canucks are out. I get not being able to cheer for a rival (Ie flames, or a habs fan vs Toronto or Boston etc) but just hating on other teams because they are not Canucks is silly. I used to hate the Oilers in the 80's because they would kick the snot out of the Canucks. The Oilers were on HNIC every Sat night, and I avoided watching alot of the best hockey in history and the best player in history because of that, a big regret. It's silly to not want to watch exciting hockey as a fan of the sport. Just look at these playoffs, even without the Canucks they have been unbelievable to watch.
  4. I beleive next year's draft is expected to be much deeper and is expected to be one of the best in recent history (ie some saying better than 2015 which was a crazy draft) . Personally, if we are trading players, I think we should be doing it for next year's draft or later this year/deadline for the 2023 draft. Rather have more shots in a deeper draft.
  5. True, but never a bad thing to have a tall, right handed center who was rookie of the year in the SHL (and beat Petey's numbers, granted a few years older) in the stable. Let's hope he can be an effective NHL'er and on of JB's trades will have worked out.
  6. I do hope that after seeing Brock in the end of season media panel, after seeing what he's been going through, that Canucks' fans start realizing that hockey players are human beings too. They are not video game characters who don't have personal issues. Brock has been so close to his father, he lost a close friend as a teenager, his father has been ill for a very long time, and people ignore that he's human and this can affect your mental ability to focus, your desire to compete, everything. Sending prayers to Brock and his family, and hoping he re-signs here and lifts a cup for Duke in Vancouver.
  7. agreed, I believe they mgmt group are fishing to see who has the most value, and who is expendable / who can they move to shore up other areas. The reality is someone good will have to go to get good back in a weaker area (have to give to get idea). Trading Myers, Pearson, etc can help on the cap front but it won't bring back impact players, only cheaper replacements. As a result, one of Bo, Miller, Boeser or maybe two will have to move (not both centers) to improve our RD and other weaknesses. It will be an interesting summer I think.
  8. fair points, but Hughes has been used alot on the wing, and given his size may be better suited there.
  9. NJ would be a good match for us. Get that 2nd overall which they are open to moving, they've got alot of D prospects, and some young players on their roster.
  10. We've seen alot of threads about moving Miller, Boeser etc, but not much has been said about Bo Horvat. First off, let me say I respect and appreciate what Bo brings to the Canucks. He is an incredibly focused, hard worker who never takes a night off, has consistently been a quiet leader for this team through his effort, work ethic and on and off ice performance. A true canuck. That being said, with his contract up at the end of next year, his age will be 28 and a UFA (one and half years younger than Miller) and as such, is he possibly seen as higher value than Miller to other teams, while Miller is (in my view) higher value to us. While I am sure some will say we can't trade our captain, really we must consider all alternatives. I do think Bo is more expendable than Miller if we have to move one, and yes the age difference does matter, that can potentially also bring back more in a trade. Teams would line up for him. What are people's thoughts? What's his value? is he higher, lower, same as Miller? Does he get us the trade with NYR we wanted? Schneider, Lafrenierre, and a pick? Does he get us NJ second overall and a young DMan, plus?
  11. This is exactly why I believe they will sign him to a 3 year deal. It will be lower than his QO, probably around 6.25. A bit high for his last year production but reasonable if you look at his performance in totality. It allows him to earn into a big payday, allows flexibility for a trade, and gives the team cap flexibility. Brock has recently said, he's very fortunate to play hockey and get paid well and have a good life, he is a character young man who clearly is not out for the last dollar. Assuming he loves Vancouver, and playing here as he says, I am sure there is a reasonable deal here. While I like Brock as a person, I do wonder if he 'fits' this team long term. He hasn't seem to improve his skating or physical engagement and is not the same player since he hurt his back a few years ago. If he can come back faster, more agile, then he's a keeper. If not, perhaps its a trade to come.
  12. Podz is a beauty. Love his compete and he's going to be a big part of this team for a long time. Glad he fell to us.
  13. It amazes me the lack of 'awareness" of management on many teams. They seem to treat players like cattle. No wonder players don't have any allegiances to teams any more
  14. Apparently it came out today that the following was offered by the Rangers. (Sat Shah was the source on twitter I believe) Miller to NYR Nils Lundqvuist, Filip Chytil, and a first rounder While this is an "ok" return - It clearly wasn't enough for new management and its also a type of deal that would still be available at the draft. My guess is management felt lets wait to see how some teams fair in the playoffs and that could change their minds. The rangers may stand their ground given how well they are doing, but other teams like Florida, Pittsburgh, Toronto (not that they have much to offer), Dallas, Kings, Bruins, anyone who had early exits and wants to get over the top, may create the competitive tension to raise bids. I can't see us not getting an equivalent deal if we wanted to move him at the draft. I do hope he's re-signed and if we are to move a center, I think Horvat should be the guy.
  15. I like this move. Full circle. Horvat came from NJ in the swap for Schneider, and goes back as a key part of a group in need of a solid C and leader, and wanting to take the next step. I also think he would thrive there. He wouldn't have to be 'the guy" and can be their #2C. I am not sure we get #2 overall but maybe we do. He's young, big, solid in the circle, viewed as a good defensive player, and can score 30. They also have a great deal of young talent and so aren't so needy of the pick. My preference would be exactly this, move Bo, re-sign Miller, and move Boeser as well..
  16. Move Bo and Boeser not Garland. We need his compete.
  17. I think Petey and Quinn are so exceptional at what they do, and compete so hard for their size, there is really very little we can criticize. Where I see issues is when you have good but not "ELITE" players like Horvat and Boeser, both big boys, who need to level up their physicality and compete and don't. To me they play like they are 'Elite" players when they are good players but are complementary. Those are the players who must fight harder and do the things like block shots, like throw the hit, be the first man into a scrum, show they want it. That's where the difference happens, its those good players who can be great all around by competing harder. Sadly, I just don't see it with them. Again, there is nuance, I am not saying they don't compete, I just don't see them having the next level or gear that we need. Imagine if those two competed like Kadri or Marchand (ex the shenanigans)....we just don't see that. Basically, if they are to be part of the core, they need to show more, they need to compete harder. Given their ages, its likely, they are what they are now....and if that's the case, we should be moving them.
  18. Hi all! First post, and as a huge canucks fan and an avid hockey fan in general, and after watching alot of games this playoffs, I curious what fans in van think about our team competitiveness. I do hope not to rile people up but after watching most of the playoffs, I do see a major gap in our team ,"heart, desire, speed, effort" whatever you want to call it, or whatever the combination vs. the teams that seem to be moving forward. Obv we are not Colorado or Tampa, we don't have McDavid who has really impressively taken his game to another level where the conversations about "could be be the best ever" start to creep in. BUT, teams that are still in it just seem to have more speed, will and desire to win. Everything from blocking shots, backchecking, hitting, standing up for teammates, it feels like we are lacking alot of that. I feel like I am understanding what JR and PA meant when they said we need a team that won't just make the playoffs but that can contend. Long and short of it, I think we have a soft team, physically and mentally. I believe this team has become accustomed to being "good enough" to be close, and that's all that's expected. I look at players that I respect like Bo, Boeser, Myers, OEL, etc who are talented players, but I don't see the Miller or Garland fire. And watching teams who are moving forward, their best players have that fire, McDavid, Kane, Draisaitl, Mckinnon, Kadri, Stamkos, Kucherov, on and on....these guys are all raising their games, finding ways to win and I worry some of our guys have sadly become content with mediocrity. Perhaps its just the style of hockey I like but I just don't see our group as it stands being the 'core' of a cup winner. I love Miller and Garland and how they compete and I think we need more of that. Miller would make sense to move, but personally, I would rather see Horvat and Boeser moved instead, and no slight on them I just think they may have become accustomed to being 'good enough'. And by that I mean, hey they put up decent numbers, that's their job! I am sure many might say that...but there's something "more" they seem to lack, that extra push, that extra want..... Anyways, curious if others see the same thing I do...watching the canucks regularly for the last few years, I just don't see the right mix to be a contender within the core. To me the core is really, QH, TD, EP, VP, I think Boeser is not a core player, I think Bo is about to age out, Miller depending on contract is core...but I think an expectation that some of these guys are going to be part of a cup run, is unlikely and if we don't move them we may be "middling" for a very long time. Happy to hear thoughts! GCG!
