  3. This actually reminds me about Kyle Wellwood's career. The guy had some skill, and his stick handling was well above average. He just couldn't piece it all together, luckily, Kassian's got a lot of time to "piece it all together."
  4. The guy just needs to find a spark. Hopefully Torts can ignite a fire in him somehow, but right now, doesn't seem like it.
  5. Yaaay snow... Going to be all gone by Wednesday
  6. So I was researching up on grad schools, and I was interested in Sauder's Masters of Management program...until I saw the 27k tuition fee. How do people put themselves through grad school? Holy crap. Sauder's MBA program is 44k...

I'm not going to be putting my parents through that amount of debt, nor do they have the money to fund me like that. More student loans if anything...

  7. No of course not...I was just joking. They have a good chance in getting out of the group stages though. Or at least, that's what I think.
  8. Pshhh that's what people said in 2010 when they were grouped with Argentina, Greece, and Nigeria.

  11. Quit pumping your own tires. Seriously? You're not going to get anyone else listening with that type of arrogance. I guess I'll concede that my claim was incorrect? Don't know why you're so adamant on proving me wrong. It still doesn't justify the reasoning behind how taxation increases the well being of people. There's a fine line between a dream and a reality. Maybe if you took some economics and political sciences courses at my college, you'd at least understand why this generation is the way it is. You'd understand how this world really works and why certain things like increased taxation will not solve our problems. Yes, there are some greedy pigs out there. Look at your own financial system, it's a mess. But what's taxation going to do? They'll just spend more money lobbying and on lawyers to find clever ways to circumvent the system. I'm all for making the better a world place. Who the hell isn't? It's your methods I'm having problems with. Slapping a 50% tax on those who make over a million doesn't do anything. You really think government is the one who knows how to put our money to good use? You should know that by looking at your own congress down south. Did you not learn anything from past communist countries? Or at least those who tried to achieve a communist society? This world runs on incentives. People want to enjoy their lives. Settling for "just what they need" is total crap. Who would want to do that? I sure don't. I have one life to live, and settling for "just enough" doesn't cut it because I don't get another chance to do this all over again.
  12. Don't why you're labeling people who want lower taxes as parasites and some kind of evil villain that doesn't give a crap about anyone else. People are simply trying to enjoy life was much as they can. Is that a crime? I enjoy material things and I want a nice house. And to do that I need to work hard and make money.
  13. can't stop laughing at this

  14. Because with a smaller population, welfare doesn't cost a fortune. Less immigrants means allowing less low-skilled workers who require more government assistance into the country. Norway has a population of just over 5 million, its a completely different story. I never lashed out at their system, it's great. Who wouldn't pass up on high salaries for all? But achieving through that by simply taxing people more is counter-productive here. "Oh gee, I should keep working harder while the government takes more of my money because it's better for the common good." Sure it may be, but to think that the majority will have this sort of moral ground is crazy talk. What happens instead: Cut costs. Layoff employees. Pack your bags, off to China! It's definitely selfish but it's reality. I'll gladly owe up to your claim that I am selfish. Like I said, when and even if, I make 100k salary eventually after I get out of college, I want to be able to keep as much of that as I can. Can you really blame me? By then, I will have finished over 20 years of school and hardwork. I come from an immigrant family and all I want to do is to repay the people who came to this country and raised me while working tirelessly day after day. And of course lastly, I want to enjoy my life. Keeping most of that 100k I hopefully make is surely going to help with that. I got a little melodramatic in the end, but that's what I've come to think when it comes to this whole endless debate around the distribution of wealth and money.
  15. But what about those who don't try and cheat the system? A healthy person living on his own making 100k gets to keep 60 percent of that here in Canada. Where's the justice in that? That person worked hard to earn that 100k and government suddenly has the right to take away 40 thousand just because a body of elected individuals feel that they know what's morally best for people? Is it not government that is the parasite when it comes to taxation? And quit using the Scandinavian countries as a counter-argument. They have populations that are fraction of what we have here in Canada and even more in the US. Not to mention the fact that they have incredibly low immigration populations. The cost of welfare up there is chump change compared to what we would have to deal with if we were to match Norway, Sweden, etc.
  16. So...I've skimmed over the last few pages in this thread. ...and no, communism doesn't work. When it starts, someone will ALWAYS step up to the plate and tip the scale in their favour. While true communism has never been practiced, true communism in and of itself cannot be achieved in the world we live in today. Take some economics courses, it doesn't work. It shows in the numbers. You can't centrally plan an economy, its inefficient and leads to corruption at the top. China figured that out and gradually transitioned into capitalism, look at the country now. It also shows in history. Spain came close with its short anarchist period. But guess what happened? Someone came over and messed it all up. I wonder who that was...and what happened after... That being said, the human species is forever evolving. Hell, it's only been about 20 years since apartheid ended in South Africa. That means a lot, that means that, only 20 years ago, a huge group of people on this planet actually genuinely believed that a certain race of the same species were somehow less developed and deserved to be treated like second-class citizens. Hundreds of years ago, we even fought countless bloody wars over who's God was better. Give or take another hundred years, maybe humans will come to realize that money and wealth isn't everything. But that's not the case now. Why should I as hard as I am now when I receive less? Basic human logic. Simply raising taxes is not a viable solution in the modern economy. Sorry, but as sad as it sounds, the first thing I am going to do when I get my first real job out of college is to think about how to spend the salary I am going to be getting on my family and myself. I have a life to live, and how to making it as enjoyable as possible comes first over starving children in the third world.
  17. Dare I say...bring back Burke? The team he left behind in Toronto seems to be panning out well now. Outspoken duo of Burke and Torts wouldn't hurt either.
  18. Jeff Cowan's little hot streak during his time with the Canucks. Someone from the crowd threw a bra onto the ice after his hat trick, hence, the name.
  19. True, but that doesn't mean you start suggesting that Kassian's a bust or whatever. The twins never even fully developed unit they hit their late 20's. Bring this discussion up if he doesn't start producing by the time he hits his mid-late 20s.
  20. We need something like this to save the season:
