  1. I don't know. As much as he's a RHD who fits the age group, I expected we'd look to solidify the defensive side rather than try to add another offensive defenceman. More than that, I thought we'd use our surplus of wingers to do it. Don't hate it, but was really looking forward to the extra picks in this draft, especially the two 1sts.
  2. Ah, right, they aren't even close enough to the cap to be able to use LTI. Pretty hard to argue anything nefarious then. Still a weird one as you'd want a player you trade for to be able for the playoff push and get some chemistry. I guess they feel he's good enough/has enough left that it won't matter.
  3. It's an odd one. Definitely wouldn't want any major retention for that reason, and even a low amount (say 10%) would still take up one of the available spots an possibly limit future options. I don't see Miller happening. Schenn's done and doesn't fit the rumour. Boeser makes the most sense, but could be in a multiple piece deal. Hopefully we're getting a solid D prospect/player in one of these deals rather than relying on drafting, signing Mcdonough, free agency, etc.
  4. Certainly a buy low project. Lockwood was getting to be limited for his NHL value, a reasonably responsible replacement player but not much more than that. If Kravtsov can find some offensive form, he might be a piece to flip later on for more, or we might be making another move to free up space for him longer term.
  5. Yeah, hoping for a good result with that. Either just outside 12, or high next year. Something to look forward to I guess.
  6. Alright, had some time with this now and like Raty (got a centre back at least!) but will see how he is with a better viewing. The first is good, but not great since it's protected. With Horvat needing to be re-signed still, I can see why the Isles would want that. Beauvillier is an extra, maybe a value version of Pearson but I don't know. We don't replace Horvat's faceoffs, and what he brings on that end of things. It's going to be a sore spot when we didn't strengthen our defence with this trade and we haven't been great this year. And since we didn't add defence but rather another winger, we're probably keeping Miller at centre for now, and we might have more trades in the works (or hopefully at least inquiring about) for improving our back end. That closes the door with Horvat the way this went down. I don't think the hopeful here will see him asking us what we'd offer come free agency. I haven't been the most impressed with management so far, even with things like the Kuzmenko deal. They have a chance now to make some changes so I hope to see progress. We have to do something other than stay where we've been while we have players like Pettersson and Hughes. I don't know if I'd say it's even or that we win the deal, but that might be a bit of my attachment to Horvat and what he does for the team that no one else does keeping me from calling it fair at least.
  7. I'll have to check out the return, but I still would have rather traded Miller last year for whatever we could get, and signed Bo early if he was willing. Instead, we waited, and we had to move Horvat. Of course, if Horvat didn't want to sign early and bank on himself having a run like he has, then it still might have complicated things. Similarly if the best returns for Miller were filled with negative value, but we may never know. Good luck, Bo. I'll have to follow the Isles a little more closely now.
  8. Schenn is a guy who wants to be here and fills a hole we're lacking in. He's not a world beater, but he's earned a bit of respect within the team. I'm sure the team would look for a good option for him to go to as well as a good return, and he might even come back.
  9. Really? I mean, does anyone remember Tryamkin hitting, well, anyone? What do smaller players have to contend with everyday in the NHL? What if this was a draft process between a single gender of people and most the biggest, fastest, most skilled players ended up on one team? All this says is the random drafting process sucked, not that trans women are an issue. The article even says the teams discussed what to do when they say the imbalance. To say otherwise is transphobia/hate. EDIT: and I see a number of comments that fall in the category outlined by my last sentence. People here thinking a man would go though years of hormone blockers to compete as a woman in some sort of gotcha moment clearly do not understand the issue.
  10. Yeah,$5K is only 0.5% of league minimum. For a guy like Nurse, he doesn't care about paying that. 0.5% of his cap hit is a little over $40K. It might affect him in a sentencing review for something else, but it really needs to be a little more.
  11. You all are crazy. This is crazy. I get it, him getting a Miller contract would be too much. Offense drives bigger salaries. Bo isn't change you find in the seat cushions though, and he does things for this team no one else really does, certainly not in one package. If we want to do more than just make the playoffs, that's the guy you need in your lineup.
  12. Interested to see how he performs in the US tourney and camp.
  13. It'll be nice to have hockey back on and see how the young guys have progressed.
  14. So many people saying, "well, Petey and Miller put up more points." We can't ignore the defensive heavy lifting Bo does, particularly the load of faceoffs he handles. Sure, offence drives the biggest contracts, but Bo puts up his fair share and gives the others more offensive opportunities. Someone mentioned Kesler, and that's fair, but it may not put him second tier as much as people think. I'd put them as more than nice to have's but rather essential parts of our team. If we moved Bo, we'd have a big hole to be filled. It might be possible to fill it with a Malhotra-type on the third/bottom six, but then we would for sure be splitting Petey and Miller up full time. If we keep him, it will definitely be tricky to fill the gaps throughout the lineup, but I think we're in a better spot if we do.
  15. There was one of two ways this would go: we'd find a deal for him in a trade, hopefully getting good to better than good value, or we'd re-sign him to a longer term deal. Cap hit is reasonable, and no one is suggesting he'll play at this level for the duration, but the question now is if the window is big enough before he drops off, and if we can move his deal in the latter stages.
  16. Yup, saw that Carolina and St Louis were interested as well. Compared to something like Kesler - who also had demanded a trade, but really only left the Canucks one option in Anaheim - but for a younger player coming into his prime, it's not a surprise. Florida had to have a reason to want to move on from Huberdeau, because otherwise that doesn't happen. Calgary tried to convince Gaudreau and it didn't work, so no need to compare to Miller, and we'll see if they can convert on Huberdeau and Weegar.
  17. I'm sure like many in his position, he wanted to try something new for a chance to get into the NHL.
  18. Somehow the long version is better than my short version. Always look for your posts though Sid.
  19. I would have liked 1yr/$1M less, but that's free agency for you. 2 years to show he actually can continue to produce would be even better, but we'll see if his finishing ability follows through. We know he can skate like the wind.
  20. Might be one of those guys that makes it and has a good impact, or just never quite gets there. Here's hoping for the former.
  21. Young, so there's the higher risk, higher reward aspect of him not being further along in his development, but would be nice to get a later round gem.
  22. Good to see he'll get some local exposure next season. Hopefully he improves his skating and the rest comes with it.
  23. Yeah, yeah, all the jokes. But good to see a D (even a left side one) with some size combined with skill. Here's hoping there are many years of causing confusion for announcers everywhere!
  24. ...like us signing him in January to an extension. If we like what we see, we won't be waiting until July 1st to get the deal done.
