  1. Wouldn't a buy out still be a net gain of +/- 4 million in cap space for that time frame? That is, approximate 8 million cap hit minus 4 million dead cap = 4 million available cap space.
  2. I've been surprised by some recent results from some of these teams who have come up with big wins.... Detroit beat Boston and Montreal took it to the Penguins last night but the inconsistency of the bottom feeders tells me no, none of them will go on a run.
  3. Canucks need a legitimate NHL backup which will likely run the 1-2 million range, That is, someone who can handle a starting workload if called upon to do so. Also to improve on the status quo they need an upgraded 3C and #2LHD to bump OEL to #3LHD or keep Bear as RHD I think you may have missed the cap coming in when Mikhayev returns next year and when/if Pearson returns. My math for this is; goalie = 1.5 million LHD or Bear = 1.5 million 3C = 1.5 - 2.5 million Pearson = 3.2 million Total = minimum +/- 7.7 million if they want to improve the status quo Good chance Pearson doesn't return so there is some wiggle room there for sure for next year and Myers coming off the books for 2024 or sooner will provide more money to extend Petey
  4. What does Kuzmenko have in common with the Stars helmet sponsor 7-11? ----- He's always open
  5. Wow, pretty tough on the kid aren't you? His draft +1 season hasn't blown anyone's socks off but no one is expecting him to make the Canucks right away either. I wouldn't use the "b" word on any draft pick until at least 4-5 years after they are drafted.
  6. I like your analysis and am not trying to pick it apart but I would wait on Hronek to play a few games before calling this trade a hit. I do agree that it has the potential to be a hit but can't say for sure yet. One other note on Nils Aman, I is only moving up to 3C out of necessity but is not really a legitimate middle pairing center. They let Lammikko go who actually had better defensive and offensive numbers than Aman last year.
  7. Somewhere Weisbrod is smiling at his prized prodigy
  8. Noticed that as well, you beat me to asking..... barely
  9. CapFriendly lists him as a center. All other sites list him as LW. Be nice if he can play center or at least develop into one but my guess is he starts on the wing.
  10. But it took them almost 14 months to start to do anything so it should be the same.
  11. Sell low, that's great business..... Not going to happen
  12. 4 points in 5 games so far. Must be some kind of end of season secret weapon.
  13. Shed cap Plan A - Myers is an easy move with a low actual salary after his bonus is paid. He has actually been quite good lately but needs to be moved. It's OK to retain some salary for the coming year to help move him. - Boeser to be moved. I like the guy but he is too soft. Canucks should take all offers that don't involve retaining salary. Package in Rathbone if needed Plan B - Move out Garland if the price is right but if Myers and Boeser can be moved then Garland can stay. Plan C - If none of the above work, plan C is to buy out OEL, I'm on the fence if this should also be included in Plan A. Defense Plan A - Sign Livingstone - Sign a defensive LHD who can play 2nd pairing to bump OEL to the 3rd - Retain Bear for low cap hit Plan B - Afordable 2nd pair LHD or RHD that can play 20ish or so defensive minutes or so per night. - Other NCAA defenseman signing(s) Plan C - Run with he current combination of Juulsen, Wolanin and Brisebois, this isn't improving on the status quo but these guys have been servicable. This would mean replacing their depth on the farm team with a few defense AHL signings. Forwards - Find a crotchety bottom pairing center who is great on defensive draws - Add toughness, I'd consider moving Hogz for a lower scoring but harder hitting player. Goalie - Sign a real NHL backup for 1-2 years to allow Silovs another year on the farm Edit - Almost forgot - Draft Bedard!!!!
  14. with a top 4 like that it really doesn't matter. Both of those top 4 lines could eat up 20-25 minutes per game so the bottom guys just pick up the scraps.
  15. Canucks used all of their post TDL AHL moves immediately after the TDL but the roster limits are open so he can stay and practise witht he big team. Anyone taken out now just becomes a healthy scratch but stays with the big team
  16. Great to retain guy who gives 100% every shift. Should be a good role model for the younger guys who are trying to figure out how to make it as a pro.
