  1. By putting people on "Ignore" you do not reject adult conversations. These are opportunities to rid your time on CDC of posters you do not like. Personally, I do not like childish, repetitious, obnoxious, ignorant (pun), et cetera posters (and trolls) filling up my reading list. You of course, are welcome to read all this 'adult conversation' and respond to it. In fact, that is one of the reasons I have you on "Ignore", so I don't have to read you quoting and responding to them.
  2. Not sure, but if TG wants to set the tone, the first line will be: Ferland - Petey - Goldie Goldthorpe (Not Goldobin, but the real player upon whom Slap Shot's Ogie Ogilthorpe was based.)
  3. Graovac looked good to me as well as Gaudette, Brisebois, and some others. Goldobin and other regulars from last year have not really looked that great. Motte, for example, looks a little slower (and maybe heavier?); he's in tonight, I believe, so we will get an update. But I don't think we are going to lose any player we do not want to lose. If they can be sent down so we don't lose any players, imo, they will be sent down. We need to keep as many near-ready NHL level players at the ready as possible. There will be time later for trades, waivers, injuries, whatever that give the Gaudettes and MacEwens their time in the show. I think tonight's game will provide the info to make the final decisions over the next week. But I don't think we're going to give away Goldobin for example because Gaudette has outplayed him in the preseason.
  4. He must have loved the Sedins: "We don't hate anybody." - Hank Sedin.

  6. I would guess its: Schaller, Leivo, Eriksson, Goldobin, but I doubt Motte as he delivers the most motor per dollar of cap.
  7. Thanks Lois, really appreciate your updates. Just the way Brock says, "Horvat" says so much. Cap is a rock to Brock.
  8. Thanks guys. #42 Cameron Hebig = Marked Man. (And he not dat big.)
  9. What happened to Quinn? Can't seem to find a report or a video anywhere.
  10. Thanks, I did not know that. (The Victoria Cougars junior team did move to Prince George though.) And I agree that banners should recognize the accomplishment. In fact, I have lobbied for the PG Cougars to hang something appropriate as well. The more good karma or Mojo we can get going, the better, imo. We are going to Win The Cup with this group, maybe not this year, but soon enough. I can't wait to see Bo and Petey and Quinn and Company skating around with The Cup! And The Rumble starts tonight!
  11. Good interview. At the end when he talks about "hockey has always been big here" (in Victoria), he missed the opportunity to mention that the last time a BC team won The Stanley Cup was the team right here in Victoria, several years after the Vancouver Millionaires won their's, the Victoria Cougars (since moved to BCHL PG Cougars). We're kickin' the season off in Stanley Cup Land! GCG!
  12. Still in the dark? I said, "IF" Juolevi beats out the competition, he should not be sent to Utica, imo. Therefore, IF he is not ready, he should be sent to Utica, right? Talk about dense!
  13. Jake was MIA in the pre-training camp media thing too. 3/4 chairs filled in the last group and they were expecting him. Players uncertain if they should start without him. Then they did.
  14. When the last CBAs were signed, the vets screwed the rooks. They gave in to the cap, but the young guys were contract-limited for years. Now, the RFAs (with the Meier-type contract) can force the big payday by jacking up the price of the last year. Teams get the AAV they need but risk losing the player at the end of the contract to UFA. Now, the CBA is up for renewal, and I would not be surprised if this rear-end loading will be stopped. The NHL may even punish the signers retroactively ala the Luongo clause. With the high talent level of the kids coming in, the vets are not as secure in their power. The NHLPA might be advised to listen to the kids during these negotiations and not rely on the old vets as sole reps at the table. As fans, we don't want another lockout, and want to settle into a nice long CBA without any labour disruptions (aka not missing any games). But there is big money on the table and negotiators would be advised to treat the young guys fairly under a new deal. I understand JB's reluctance to give Brock a Meier-type contract, there so many ways the team could get hurt. I would hope the Brock remembers the team burning a year off the time it takes for him to hit free agency so he could get a contract and help his family. He should sign a slightly more team-friendly deal than might be expected otherwise and help build a stronger contender. I also hope that now that his father is stabilized and recovering, Brock can turn his full attention to this situation. Sitting all alone on a college bench while his whole team is benefitting from training camp is no fun and no way to handle this, imo (of course). If they want to win The Cup, star players are going to have to give a little so the team can fit enough talent under the cap. Bo started it, now Brock could stay the course, and Petey, Quinn, et al can follow and build a solid, contending core for years to come.
  15. Not to derail thread, but: Gretzky, Lemieux, Hawerchuk
  16. I get the feeling that some posters do not like the idea of OJ outplaying say, the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, etc, players that they have pencilled into their very logical and comprehensive prognostications for who will be on the starting lineup. It doesn't fit the plan; it's not under the cap; etc. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for you guys and am sincere about your very good projections. I just think there is also room for stuff to happen and I believe that Juolevi has the potential to upset the apple cart. I don't think if OJ makes the 8th D, that it is a foregone conclusion that he makes the big club; he is very likely to be sent down in that case. But I can see him beating out enough guys that he moves up the list, and if one or more D get traded or injured or sent down, he would be behind only Edler and Hughes on the left side, i.e. 5th or 6th D. (I don't suppose you would allow me to project the possibility that if Edler or Hughes got injured, that Olli Juolevi could be our #3 or #4 defenceman playing his natural position on the left hand side.) It may not be unreasonable to project that Juolevi does not need to outplay Myers, Hughes, Edler, Tanev, or even Stetcher to earn #6 D. It also may not be unreasonable to think that he might be better than Benn, Fantenberg, Woo, Biega, Teves, Rafferty, Sautner, Brisebois, Eliot, Chatfield, Utunun, (who'd I miss)?
  17. Yes, the presumption I am making is that OJ will be ready and will outplay the competition. (See above for "The Big If".) The point I am making is that "if" Juolevi is ready and outplays his competition, that I think (aka imo) it would be wrong, and it could send the wrong message to send him to Utica. If he earns a spot on the roster, I say, 'Don't ice an inferior team because we might lose a Biega or Schaller or some other player that has NOT outplayed his competition'. Hold every player to a new, higher standard, and if they get beat out for a position, so be it. We're not going to get very much in trade for anybody who can't make the Canucks anyway, so why undermine genuine roster competition?
  18. OJ was ready before his latest surgery. He is fully healed, showing well, and pain-free. The big "if" here is: "If" he is ready to go. If OJ outperforms all the 6th, 7th, 8th, etc. D in line for the job, I think it is wrong to send him to the minors. I also do not think it will be that difficult for him to outplay Stetcher, Benn, or any of the prospects. Quinn is a lock of course, and so is Eddie, but OJ could be #5 on the depth chart holding down the 3rd LHD position. I think it is unfair to OJ, the rest of the team, and the coaches and management to send him down "if" he has earned a spot. It also sends the wrong message to everyone (including the AHL and ECHL and the KHL and the SHL etc) that even if you outplay the others, you're not going to make the team. Benning should be happy to eat his "OJ will start in Utica" statement and support his "if a player outplays the others, we will make room for him".
  19. (I didn't just start having this opinion at the development camp, I have been predicting that OJ will make the team for a few months.) If Olli shows to be a top 6 defenseman at training camp, I believe it would be a mistake to make him return to Utica. If he's not ready, he's not ready, but if he is, why wouldn't we want him on the team? This new phase for the team means we are going to be able to (have to) make some tough decisions and let some pretty good players go. Just because he doesn't have to clear waivers, doesn't mean he should get sent down. We want to ice the best team possible from the outset. Points in October are worth almost as much as points in March.
