There are thousands of those Western Garter Snakes all around Boundary bay - especially along dike near Boundary bay Airport and centennial beach. We've seen many of them and there are signs asking folks to leave them alone as the kids love picking them up. They only grow to about 2-3 feet long and most are only 16-18"inches although I've seen 3-4 fairly health snakes along the tracks in White Rock that would frighten some people.

Yes, those guys are very good to have around. They eat their body weigh in other bugs daily and are more afraid of us than anything. Tons of these guys back east in Ontario & Quebec not as many here.

I check both those out but neither had the distinctive RED DOT on the back - like the Black Widow has. but thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep researching this.....

That's what I figured. I vacuumed both of them up - rather than risk a bite.

apparently South Surrey & Tsawwassen have the highest cluster of Black Widows in BC. (and I'm talking spiders - Not Old Woman) I was told this by a biologist student I ran across at the beach who was catching Western garter Snakes around Mud Bay and we got chatting about all the invasive species the environment dept is tackling and she mentioned that many people are getting bit by those buggers mainly on the feet - as they tend to crawl into shoes frequently.

Get a load of this spider I found in my bananas last august. This guy and one other climbed right out of the bunch up the wall. I have yet to identify it but it was a fluorescent green that almost glowed in the dark. If anyone know what this creature is LET ME KNOW because I still haven't been able to identify it.

The worst part is that the Western Balack Widow Spider" is spreading all over BC and especially the Lower mainland - lookout. ..even more amazing is that "SOME PEOPLE" think we're "close" with this same group of players we've had for years. Go Figure!

Great to see we actually accomplished.............SOMETHING..........this season. Too bad it took all the way until game 82 to get to reach this Pinnacle of Success that folks will talking about for years! ....and I though this season was a complete failure until this unparalleled Milestone was reached!
