  1. I like the Virtanen pick, but something in my gut tells me that if we drafted Ehlers instead Benning would have drafted Tkachuk to get that physicality. Imagine our top line... Tkachuk, Horvat, and Ehlers with Boeser and Baertschi on the second line...

I'm happy to wait 5 more years before wanting Tkachuk over Juolevi.

If we were to draft Hischier next June our future core still looks great. Maybe the comparison should be between a potential Tkachuk, Horvat, and Ehlers line compared to a Hicher, Horvat and Virtanen (or Boeser) line.

Juolevi was a great pick. Very happy with it. He's going to be a stud. I do think we'll likely end up with another top 5 pick this year. So I suspect that a Nico Hischier could be within our grasp. If we can grab him and possibly Kailer Yamamto in the second round (I suspect we'll get Columbus's 2nd rounder this year + our own + I think Kailer will slip because of his size)... we'll be seeing a lot of our "future core" problems evaporated.

Honestly, Benning gets thrown a lot of shade by radio folks and the likes but he's been doing a good job with the rebuild, in my mind. He gutted the defensive core and rebuilt it entirely with guys like Gudbranson, Stecher, Tryamkin, Hutton, and Juolevi leading the charge as led by Tanev... and stealthly picked up a stud star goalie in the making. Good teams are truly built from the back out. It's a process but this Canucks group isn't in the dire straights that people truly believe it is.

Hell, before the Blackhawks landed Kane and Toews, they built there defensive core by selecting Seabrook and Keith in the drafts immediately before that... so, there is precedent.

Virtanen might not be a top line player, but even if he can emerge as a 2nd liner, that's great too.
