Got Covid from a concert last Saturday. Wednesday through to this afternoon were brutal but I think the fever broke. Now it feels like a normal cold.

Boeser for Pierre-Luc Dubois?
Would the Jets bite?
-
Boeser for PLD would be borderline robbery. I like Boes as a person, but his inconsistency on the ice is bothersome.
And I'm sick of moving 1st round picks for larks. JT is the only one who truly worked out in the last several years. As much as I like Garland and OEL I would undo that trade in a second.

Anyone else feeling the travel bug biting? Been wanting to go abroad... but of course there's obvious Covid risks and quarantine measures...

These travel stories rejuvenate my passport vigor.
Phil I rented a motorbike in Hanoi and travelled all around. Amazing fun zipping up the Ha Giang mountain ranges and I'll go back to do it again one day with some friends who became interested once I regaled them with tales. English is spoken in cities, but I like languages so learned enough food and barter words to get by in rural areas and was always welcomed. Hell I was walking around Ha Giang with my friend looking for a morning ca fe za da when a family yelled at me (in Vietnamese I did not understand) to come over and greet them. You know, the hands and elbows pumping towards the chest and face in "come here" fashion.
Once I crossed the road and saw what they had I knew what was up. They had pulled a jackfruit off their tree in the backyard and were about to crack it open and wanted to share it with us. Sat there for an hour conversing in broken languages translated by my friend over a fresh fruit breakfast where the sap is so sticky your lips almost glue shut, but the fruit is absolutely delicious, and they made me a coffee.
You just can't buy experiences like that, and that's why I love to travel.
Bigbad: great tales man. Argentina women and picana beef are top 5 things to love. But hey, there are lovely people and women everywhere, but the picana is unique. Senegal was always on my list since much of the flavours of southern food I like originated there. You didn't list it so I assume you have not been?
Also, Vinny, I gotta second Kyoto. Shabu shabu please.
Such a fantastic little city with an amazing little food market and amazing temples to check out. I'm not even Buddhist, I just like having a tea and walking the gardens. @Nuxfanabroad

Phil, depending on what you want out of a trip, Vietnam and Thailand have serious potential.
Nam may be my fave country I've ever been to (out of 15 ish). I travel for food which theirs I think is under-rated and ridiculously under-represented in Vancouver, plus I had the fortune of meeting amazing people/locals there so results may vary.

Yes to all replies.
I'm a big fan of long term vacations. 4-12 weeks is a good start to getting to know a place. Peru may be next on my list.
Staycations have all kinds of localized benefits. For example, taking a 6 hour drive to a yet to be visited mountain range and camp/hiking the beauty over 3-4 days before returning home to bbq some ribs has a delicious appeal.
A Canadian winter trip I always wanted to do was dogsled and icefish for a few days.

What sounds like a car alarm has been going off near me in Burnaby for at least 2 hours. At least it's thinned out by being 10+ blocks away.

Did you know that Brock Boeser has a music career? He goes by the name Yung Gravy. Pics for evidence.

On this date in 1970, Jim Morrison found guilty of "open profanity and indecent exposure" after allegedly exposing himself at a concert in Miami in 1969.
-
I think I set the wrong tone by calling him a plug because, sure, he was talented, but I 100% stand by everything else I said.
Also, you offer some interesting comparables, and in a morbid way I feel like losing Hendrix was the greater loss, losing Janis was a tragic loss, and Morrison was just the loss of an ass who couldn't get over himself, hence my feeling he is over-rated.
Good chat.
Feel free to flame me for listening to Swinging Utters Live in a Dive, Pavarotti, and the Chili Pepps while watching the election results. $&!#'s all subjective anyways.

The following could be said about many musicians, current and old, but he was an arrogant, drunk, drug addicted, boob who pissed on the floor of the bar and could rarely finish more than a few songs before slurring his way off of the stage.
I admit he and The Doors have some significant hits within the musical revolution, but that doesn't mean he's not over-rated (in my opinion).

Canucks just hired the guy who tried to hoard vaccines for members of Hollyburn in West Van. Tone deaf.

I have no faith in this ownership group. Zero. They spend money but twiddle their thumbs in everything.
At this point I don't care anymore. Can't pick your owners, so if they're gonna hire ruthless buggers to game our way to the Cup... meh. May as well improve the team instead of stagnating it.
Also, this story was blown out of proportion by local media. These vaccines weren't auctioned off to the rich, they were dished out like any pop-up clinic would have dished.

Any fish sauce fans here? Red Boat is the best one I've found locally, but I just learned that people say salted fermented fish sauce will actually go bad after a year if opened.
I go through it pretty quick, but I'm very curious how since I [falsely?] have been telling people delicious salty rotten can't get more rotten.

Jimmy, 88 Supermarket was one for sure years ago. In the past I bought it in Seattle at Pike Place and then after trying it I bought a case on Amazon. This weekend I might head out on the hunt and can let you know what I find. There's also a Filipina market on Kingsway and Fraser I think that I saw it in, but that was a year ago too.
Yes Phil, such a killer addition to wings. Most of the local brands are 3 crab, 5 crab, or Lucky, and to be honest they do in a pinch, but... yeah, there are better ones around that don't make it to Canada. Save for Red Boat which is decent.
Quick tidbit about a question nobody asked: Thai fish sauce is lighter and milder than Viet fish sauce.
Tidbit #2: having explored Vietnam one thing is abundantly clear... they treat fish sauce like the French treat wine. Locals think their regional sauce is the best, and there are definite flavour profile changes if you sample from 1 to the next. Oh, and none of the good stuff is exported, so in that sense it's even stingier than French wine.
Newbie: hit me with a deep fried fish head and a bowl of rice, or pluck the crispy meat off and place it on a reduced fish broth with all the fixins and I'm down.
