  1. Not at all lets the Leafs have their HNIC, just have CBC cut their broadcasting right for Canucks games period ! Ontario gets it's mandatory games and Vcr gets either TSN or Sportsnet. As it is now if CBC does not pick up a Vcr game neither TSN or Sportsnet are permitted to pick up the game and show it. That would be especally good come the play-offs. In short CBC ...take off, we don't need you or even want you
  2. The problem I have with the HNIC, (which I might add I rarely watch unless it features the Canucks.) neither TSN or Sportsnet are allowed to show games or compete head to head with HNIC. So if the Canucks are playing on a Saturday night and they're not featured on HNIC, Sportsnet and TSN are not allowed to pick up the game. The best deal for Vcr is just black out HNIC and leave it to local broadcast, we don't need the CBC
  3. I'd like to know how many posters have seen the likes of Gaunce, Horvat etc on a regular basis to make all these projections
  4. Schroeder = one way contract making $600K Gaunce = two way contract and a $1.1 million
  5. Here's the kicker....who will be chosen by the hockey experts to play goal for Canada in the Olympics...end of discussion. So far every hockey pundut I have heard discuss the selection it's between Luongo and Crawford
  6. I recall Kesler was not that outstanding in his early career, but did spend a year ( lockout year ) in the AHL and then subsequently came on in leaps and bounds. The problem is with the reduced Cap teams need players on ELC to balance their salaries. Some rookies will suffer as a result, boys playing a mans game. For insatnce I'm starting to look at Edmonton and wonder if there's a down side to rushing players to soon
  7. Anaheim didn't do bad with Getzlaf and Perry. With the Cap you basically decide your success with how well your rookies on ELC do.
  8. It would be good for Gaunce & or Horvat to get a couple of games for a look see where their development is. I have to say I watched Jensen in his couple of games up and he didn't look good IMO. But it has to relax Jensen for his next try knowing what to expect and how to react...I would think.
  9. So does this take some of the pressure off Gillis/Gradin/Delorme after this draft. They get a chance with a decent pick and in fact 2 first round picks and seem to have performed. To say nothing of Gaunce and Jensen low end picks in previous years

Who knows maybe some home cooking might help. He obviously has some skill, and maybe a little more time at home....well we can hope, Vcr retains his rights
  11. How come Schroeder is no longer listed on either the Roster or the "in the system " players ?? Maybe I'm just missing him some place
  12. Schroeder is not built to play wing. He has to be preferable away from the boards where he can be easily tied up. Gaunce on the other hand can play either wing or centre he's adept and built for either jobs. A big skilled player is better than a small skilled player. I wonder if a coach would be willing to play two rookies together. I'm not going to be surprised if Gaunce become a real quality player, he's made to succeed at the NHL level. One of the things you look for in a youngster is the ability to continue to grow and from every thing I've read Gaunce is still on the up swing.I don't get that feeling as much with Jensen. Corrado and Tanev you could indentify immiediatley
  13. Tough position for Schroeder, he's either a 1st or 2nd line centre. I doubt that hell will shine on a third line. But lets hope
  14. What Gaunce brings is not only his on ice abilities but his Entry Level Contract. MG is desperate for cheap but talented players to get under the Cap. Given his choice he'd likely send Gaunce back to junior but under the financial restraint he's caught in he doesn't have a lot of choice. It would be nice if Jensen proved his abilities in the AHL but dollars to doughnuts he'll be playing to, like wise Corrado. The Canucks are in a big time financial problem with the lower Cap this season and that will be solved by playing some ELC when maybe they shouldn't be playing at that level yet
  15. No what the Blues want is a repeat of the Legion of Doom line with an equally big centre between those wingers. A big centre with skill
  16. Back to Brendan Gaunce just for a moment. In MG interview today on 1040 he seemed to indicate Gaunce has a fair chance of making the team next season and likely Jensen to. Makes a bit of a change. Assuming Corrado continues along with Tanev that's some nice pieces hopefully falling into place. Who knows maybe Schroeder too
  17. To who ? there's not a big demand for 5'9" centres
  18. Nope, has another year of Junior, it's either the big club or back to Junior
  19. Hey just like a goalie has to forget the last puck that he let in a GM has to focus on the future, you can't demonize yourself by dwelling on the past
  20. Hey Ciff Ronning enjoyed great success but we're talking anomalies. There's a few successful small players.....there's a whole pile of successful big players. I'd think probably ( no stats I'm afraid ) 25-1 in favour of the big players and maybe that's conservative
  21. IMO for what it's worth you see a different game from Gallagher then Schroeder. One is a perimeter player the other is a guy that enjoys the rough and tumble. Different type of players. Their size is the only common denominator.
  22. Schroeder was a good pick at the time, that was the league direction skill and speed. Unfortunatley the NHL moved the goal posts, skill and speed are back burner players. It's a real shame but it's reality. Plus of course once you sign a propspect you are limited to how long you can sign him for on an ELC. Players might get better in a couple of years but every one has to limit their players to 50. It's a continous rotation.
  23. Easy to say, tough to full fill. If I could fore see the future I wouldn't waste my time as an NHL GM, I'd be playing the stock market Interesting remark made by MG actually was when he said he and other GM's intend to approach the NHL to try and find out what the Hell they intend to do next season and how are they going to call the game "he and other GM's" that's the interesting point ie there's a lot of p!ssed of GM in addition to MG out there. It's plain to see before they commit to draft and fill out their roster choices they need to know
  24. Different time friend....different times. The NHL via the officiating has announced it's direction for the immiediate future, well atelast for the time being until some one gets seriously injured at which time they'll probably reverse their direction under advise form thier legal dept. Right now NHL = Big and Bruising. Gaunce, yeah he'll get a look but I sure as Hell don't want to see him put in a place where he fails. Every player be it at the minor hockey level or Junior or the NHL need to be able to pump themselves up and really shine. I'm thinking Gaunce will shine in Junior next year and emphasise that at the WJC and he'll strut when he makes the canucks
