[Report] Jayden Grubbe not to be qualified by Rags
Rick Blight replied to hammertime's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
My grandson plays on the same team as his brother Jordan. Their team's head coach is Jayden/Jordan's father.......great family. I saw Jayden play a few years ago when he played for the Calgary Buffaloes U18 team and he was an absolute beast for them. A very motivated and intense player even back then. Hope the Canucks make a pitch for him -
Yup, spent a couple of years there before going to Winnipeg.

The arena is half full of Canadians when Canadian teams play there. Kind of like when Toronto or Montreal are in Vancouver. -

Anyone else see Stecher take on a much bigger Paul Cotter tonight? Good fight and I think Stecher won... -

My grandson had a hockey tournament in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago and while we were there we went to a Flames/Coyotes game. I was amazed how nice the arena was and the loud fan participation. The food and drink facilities were amongst the best of any NHL arenas I have been to. It was a great place to watch a game. -
I hope either Smith or Reinbacher is available at our pick or else I would try to trade down a few spots.

Umberger's situation was a little bit different. He left Ohio State after his Junior season with the intent to go professional with the Canucks but Burke played hardball with him and did not meet his contract demands. As a result, Umberger sat out an additional year and his rights were traded to the Rangers for Martin Rucinsky. He never signed with the Rangers and joined the Flyers as a free agent. At least that is the way I remember it.

Yes, he is Paul's son. -
If we sign him to an ELC for the 23/24 season we would be fine as we currently only have 33 contracts for that season. If they have not had contract discussions yet I would suspect they are looking at next season.

No, they are allowed to play in the NHL but cannot participate in the playoffs. NHL teams can make trades every day of the year except for nine days in December referred to as the NHL Christmas Trade Freeze. As well, trades are allowed after the March trade deadline, but those traded players are not allowed to play in the playoffs for their new team. Embed from Getty Images Toronto Star Steve Russell

[PGT] Anaheim Ducks at Vancouver Canucks | Mar. 08, 2023
Rick Blight replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I don't understand all the complaints about winning games at the end of every year and all we do is ruin our draft position. We have had 4 1st round picks in the past 6 years and 3 of them are on the team today. Those 3 are Pettersson, Hughes and Podkolzin........exactly how much better could we have done in the draft by losing at the end of the year? Would people have felt better if we had finished last, had the 1st pick and taken Petey in his draft year as opposed to 5th overall? -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Guillaume Brisebois
Rick Blight replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Really happy for Brisebois getting this contract. I believe as a 2015 draft pick he and Boeser have been with the organization longer than any other current players. He has been a very loyal soldier for the organization and has shown great perseverance in the pursuit of his dreams to play in the NHL. Hope he continues on his development path and becomes a regular member of the team. Well deserved IMHO. -
Yeah, true enough. Gretz actually had a two season span (83/84 and 84/85) where he scored a total of 23 SH goals. To put that performance in perspective, there are only 52 NHL players that had more than 23 SHG's in their entire careers. There were 2 ex-Canucks on the list of players with more than 23 SHG's but obviously not all of them were scored while with the Canucks. Bure had 34 and Mike Peca had 25.
