  1. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but if we want to re-sign Markstrom and he wants to stay here, for the expansion draft couldn’t we sign him to a one year deal next summer so that his contract would expire before the expansion draft, protect Demko, and expose an AHL/3rd string goalie?

Of course he could be signed for that... but 2 problems with that premise

      1. we need at least 1 goalie who is expansion eligible (not a big deal but still worth noting)

      2. No pro athlete wants a 1 year deal if they can avoid it, they want some kind of security.

obviously that is great for the Canucks but not so much for Markstrom.

That’s what I was thinking. Give him a one year deal next summer then a 2-3 year deal the year after depending on how ready DiPietro is.

Also to think about. If Markstrom is selected by seattle (even though he is a UFA), he wouldn’t be eligible to sign with the Canucks afterwards. So in a way, signing a 1 year deal doesn’t  mean we can keep him.

I believe Thorburn and Engalend (SP) were in this situation with Vegas.
