Duchene had a very nice contract year, not sure he can repeat those numbers next year. If you look at his 10 season career he has only hit 60+ points 3 times (2010, 2014, and last season). Take last year out of the equation and compare their point totals over the 3 previous seasons... 2015-16 Duchene 59 Miller 43 2016-17 Duchene 41 Miller 56 2017-18 Duchene 59 Miller 58 Grand total of 159 points for Duchene and 157 for JT. Pretty crazy especially when you consider Duchene was averaging 18:30 toi and Miller was averaging 16:00 over that span. Anything is possible in hockey but it certainly is not such a stretch to imagine Miller putting up similar totals to Duchesne especially if he gets 18 mins a night with Boeser and Pettersson.

They didn't. He was used primarily on a 3rd line with Kilhorn and Cirelli. He ended up 5th in scoring amongst Tampa forwards, 1 point shy of 4th behind Point, Stamkos and Kucherov. This despite missing 7 games and playing below his career average in ice time. Why didnt he play as much in Tampa last year? Balanced attack and a stacked team.

Add those 2 columns together and you get the cap hit we would take on a buyout of Luongo. The recapture is much cheaper.

I remember 90% of CDC wanting Kyle Beach.

I like ray and his stories. Have a lot of respect for him. His opinions on today's NHL are somewhat laughable at times though. I remember heading into the 2016 trade deadline he was on the radio talking about Hamhuis to Dallas. Someone asked if we could trade Hamhuis and a pick to get Nichushkin. Ray laughed and said it would take at least Bo Horvat and the Canucks first (lottery pick) and even then Dallas would say no. Went on about how great of a player Nichushkin is. Since that summer Nichushkin has 10 nhl points. Just because you are a good player doesnt make you a good manager.

The penalty is 3.03 but the silver lining is we dont pay the 800,000 that we would've had to pay if he kept playing. So we pay 2.23 more than we would have.

Where does this 2.6 mil come from? If the stays with the team we pay 3.1 mil in cap. If he is buried in Utica we pay 2.025 mil in cap. (3.1 minus the $1,075,000 exemption) If he is bought out we pay 1.03 in cap over 2 years. There is no 2.6 mil we only save 1 mil in cap space buying him out and have to pay that the next season. I would rather have a player on reserve that put up 49, 39 and 41 NHL points in the previous 3 seasons before last.

The contract was signed under the previous CBA and was perfectly legal.

Yeah I'm sure offering him an extra year for 1 million dollars will make him happy.
