I heard a rumor a month ago that the nilsson deal was done when it was because demko's group wanted him to take the next step. I could see dahlens group seeing that work and giving it a go. Demko of course was 2.5 seasons in to his AHL career, had improved on his short comings and management had no problem bumping him up. Dahlen on the other hand was half a season in the AHL and still had holes in his game, hence the result. Sends a message to keep the egos in check down there.

A couple gems I found while scouting Karlsson on the internet (both random sources)

I wouldnt consider Rasmus asplund much of anything these days. He is a .36ppg forward in in AHL who turns 22 this year. Florida seems to be the losers of this deal no matter what. Reminds me of the Ballard trade, he never turned out as good as we wanted but the other team got 2 4th liners for 2 years and nothing else.

Another note.... Dahlen would need to be protected from Seattle. Linus does not and the Canucks have 3 more years to sign him to an ELC. This is definitely a long term move. This also opens up a contract spot so we could sign an extra college free agent if we want.

With Mccann's defensive game, his physicality and the fact he plays center I would have to give him the edge over goldy. This is of course my own opinion and I can't fault you or anyone else for liking another player more. My point was more about how mccann wasn't the best player on the board but he wasn't a terrible choice.

Pastrnak ended up being the best player out of the 12 but McCann is better than the other 10 drafted after that.
