Canuck Surfer
Meh, who is going to through a big offer sheet at a guy with no NHL experience? And if its not that big we would match it! Hey guys but did not see this posted yet.. (not sorry) http://hfboards.hock...29#post52596229 Now we are going to have to match other offers. What sort of offers will other team throw at lack? Burnsey
he has yet to play a NHL game so I don't see many offer sheets for him to be fair. It's quite a risk for teams to sign him.

Hugemanskost
This happens fairly regularly with young guys coming out of their first contract. If Lack wants to stay, he and his agent will work something out. If he is signed to an offer sheet, the Canucks may or may not match. The Canucks are still looking to add Doan, who will not come cheaply. Once this situation is taken care of, the smaller roster pieces will start falling into place. Every dollar in cap space is valuable right now with only $3M left.

TheCammer
In the overall scenerio of potential goalies Lack must be in the upper tier...and certainly not far from being NHL ready. Most NHL goalies pass through the AHL so not a stretch to think Lack is close. I'd think a great insurance policy for NHL teams !! This BS of MG low balling players to play for Canucks is wearing thin. He can only play that card so often.!!
Phil_314
simple explanation, Eddie's lacking (no pun intended) enough opportunities with the to play with the big club, with the logjam created by having Lu and Cory around for the long term (at least until one of them gets moved). at least he's still an RFA though, and hopefully if he's unwilling to sign MG could flip him to another team like Jersey or Columbus needing goalies to get hopefully a young piece in return. NUCKS4CUP 28
I personally think Lack will end up being better than both Schneider and Luongo.
5minutesinthebox
He's most likely playing in the AHL next year, and he's not going to get a 1-way contract. Therefore I'm guessing that the issue is his AHL salary. The qualifying offer is a set amount and after rejecting it, he's still an RFA. So I don't see how this sort of response is really warranted. Lots of people on this forum seem to complain about how they don't get paid as much as pro athletes, how they don't really deserve what they get, etc. It's not only "just part of the business", it's how the world works. No one really gets paid what the general public feels they're worth. Usually it's a matter of there being incredibly high demand for the absolute best/most popular (pro sports, movie stars), companies having more money than they know what to do with (drug companies), or a genuinely difficult/important position (any executive positions). If you're ranting about how overpaid pro sports players are, really you're ranting about the way the world works. Another argument is that society would be pretty crappy if everyone was simply "content" with what they had. You don't have to look far to see how this attitude would ruin hockey. After all, once you've made the NHL, why bother winning the cup? Why bother fighting for a first line role? Outside of hockey, well, if no one had any desire to make improvements, we sure wouldn't have the Internet, and we'd all be living in caves. Grave
Maybe Gillis requested Lack not to accept the qualifying offer. To give the perception that the canucks don't have an abundance of NHL goaltenders. Hence, to give the perception that we are not in a hurry to move lou bc we only have two NHL goalies in the system. Russ
His offersheet would have paid him 600K at the NHL level, so can't blame him for rejecting and waiting for a better deal to come up with the Canucks to just sign him out right.
