CanucksFanMike
I doubt someone would offer sheet him... But it would be good just to sign him so he can go into training camp worrying only about winning the Canucks back-up job
thehamburglar
Because he knows that he could make more. He'll make more than a 10% raise, and he's doing better than many high touted goalie prospects in the A, so he can get it.
Baggins
Turning down a qualifying offer is pretty automatic for most players, just as issuing a qualifying offer by the team is automatic (well, for most players). It's really just the start of negotiations. Generally, only players that have had bad years accept qualifying offers.
Brockbuster
With the Lack of acceptance MGGM should Sweden the pot!!
That Commentator
Man these youngsters are getting greedy . I mean i know you try and get the best salary you can but what ever happen to just being happy you have a decent job ? Yes he's been waiting a while but he'll get his chance to prove himself in the bigs, untill then he should just buck up, play and earn his strips. If he's really that good then when he gets up hear and gets his chance he better stand on his head and then he can squawk for money. It's that feeling of entitlement that alot of people have now : "Well i'm too good to do that", or "I should have this" or "That should be givin to me now" ? It's way more prevalent now than ever in the past. What ever happened to working hard for a living, being happy with what you have. Sure you strive for the best but don't be cocky, arrogant and conceited and expect it to all fall in your lap. I know it's just part of the business but it drives me nuts. oldnews
2010-11 $67,500 $640,000 $260,000 $90,000 $900,000 2011-12 $67,500 $690,000 $210,000 $90,000 $900,000 Lack's contract for the past two seasons had an AHL salary of 67,500... I'm guessing he would like to earn a little more, particularly if he is not certain to be playing in Vancouver, where his NHL salary would have been 690,000 last year. A qualifying offer would have added 10%? If he were to play another year in the AHL, it is exceedingly easy to understand why he'd have rejected the qualifying offer. Salmonberries
Don't be ridiculous. The offer sheet to Backes was perfectly logical and in fact worked pretty well for StL in the end. That offer doesn't make him a target and you should just remove that thought from your brain. JD retaliated with Bernier, pissing match over. Salmonberries
Another thing that I didn't realize is that only six players have signed offer sheets under the current CBA; all six were matched. And all but Bernier ( a retaliatory action against Gillis) were front line players, or were thought to be at the time. I guess it's kind of a non issue then, really. Jaku
They probably just sent him a qualifying offer to keep his rights, they'll negotiate a new contract sometime, probably sooner than later.

Baggins
Except that Gillis offer sheeted Backes. That makes him an acceptable target for an offer sheet in some corners.
