WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man was arrested after stealing a delivery vehicle, making the remaining deliveries, and pocketing the cash.

A Chinese food delivery driver called to report that his car had been stolen at Bristow Middle School after he had left it idling while he ran into the school. The driver also called his boss to inform him so that the restaurant could call the remaining customers and tell them that their orders were stolen along with the car.

However, the driver was told by the restaurant that one of the order had been delivered after the theft, presumably by the car thief.

Since the two remaining deliveries were in Hartford, Hartford Police were notified. A short time later, Hartford Police notified West Hartford police that they had the car and thief in custody at 55 Farmington Ave., where the suspect was making another delivery.

Police said the thief was pocketing the money from the food deliveries in the stolen car.

After searching the thief police found a crack pipe, a joint, and some Seraquil in a bag.

The car was returned to the driver in Hartford.

Keith Hinds, of 774 Tower Ave., in Hartford, was charged with third-degree larceny, possession of less than 1/2 oz. of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to keep drugs in original container.

He is currently being held on $5,000.
