[Trade] Mike Brown to Sharks

I am just a plug. Weise is the liability.

Both of these guys are plugs, but they also both have the upside to be much better than they have been, relatively speaking. They'll always be 4th liners, but they need to step up and become consistent. Both are averaging a couple hits a game, but that should be 3-4 if they want to keep their spots and they need to utilize what skill they have. Weise has been a liability and that can't continue. Sestito needs to leverage his size much more than he does and Weise needs to better use his speed and improve his defensive zone play.

Either way - Brown has to be pleased to be moving to an elite team. Weeeeeesplat.

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have traded Mike Brown to the San Jose Sharks for a fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft.

Brown had been in the lineup for eight of the Oilers' nine games and had zero points, a minus-1 rating and 19 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11 grinder joins a Sharks team that is 8-0-1.

"Mike plays a speed game and fits the 'Fast, Hard and Supportive' mantra that our team wants to play with," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "He is a player with tremendous character, knows the Western Conference well and brings a tough, physical ingredient to our lineup."

Edmonton acquired Brown from the Toronto Maple Leafs early in the lockout-shortened 2013 season, also giving up a fourth-round pick in 2014. He had one goal in 35 games with the Oilers.

Brown, 28, is in the final season of a US$2.21-million, three-year contract. He counts $736,667 against the salary cap.

Brown is a borderline NHLer who only stays in this league because he has pretty good fighting ability.

He really doesn't bring anything more than Sestito.

Except the ability to actually fight. All Sestito does is wrestle the opposing player to the ice

Sestito actually brings size and strength to the table though.

Brown can skate well and fight. He doesn't bring anything more than a guy like Volpatti did.

If Gillis had any ability to find fourth liners, or maybe give guys like Archibald or Lain a chance we would have something. Although I do like what I've seen from Welsh early on. The guy can skate and forecheck, and even has some offensive instincts.
