He gets less than market value contracts because he doles out NTC's like Halloween candy. Now the team is handcuffed with old farts who can refuse to move.

Signing Sundin was boss? is "Boss" a foreign word for stupid? 2 years@ 10 million a season. He's lucky Sundin only took him up on 1/4 of that because otherwise he'd never of had the cap space to bring on Ehrhoff. It was not "boss" it was reckless and foolish.

nope, he could have easily shipped off farts like bernier, samuelsson, and raymond all who did nothing

Sedins inspired by Sundin Focus on: NHL: Swedish twins credit countryman for their transformation into scoring machines
IAIN MACINTYRE, Canwest News Service Published: Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Ever the scamp, Mikael Samuelsson amused himself Saturday morning by switching the dressing-room name plates of Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

And since he didn't switch the actual Sedins, the Toronto media generally misidentified the twins and attributed Henrik's quotes to Daniel and vice-versa in reports leading up to that night's game.

There was no mistaking the Vancouver Canucks' brilliance on the ice, as the brothers toyed with the Toronto Maple Leafs as Samuelsson had toyed with reporters, emphatically demonstrating how dominant they've become. The Sedins and their triplet, Alex Burrows, drove a third-period comeback by scoring all the Canuck goals in a 5-3 victory against the Maple Leafs.

Canucks' Henrik Sedin demonstrates scoring prowess against Carey Price during a 7-1 romp over the Habs Oct. 7.

By Sunday morning, Toronto general manager Brian Burke, whose team is 29th in the National Hockey League but didn't look even that good in the final period Saturday, had exorcised a third of the Maple Leaf lineup in two multi-player trades. But he can't get the Sedins, as he did at the draft for Vancouver 11 years ago, and there are no other players like them.

Like their name plates, they have changed suddenly this season. They have transformed themselves from mere elite, first-line players into dynamic, world-class scorers. And this change has nothing to do with Samuelsson, but a lot to do with another Swede, Mats Sundin.

It turns out the Mats factor was not the disappointing 28 points in 41 games the one-year Canuck produced last season for $8.6 million U.S., but the impact Sundin's unwavering professionalism had on Daniel and Henrik.

"We have a different attitude toward the game," Daniel said before the Canucks travelled Sunday to Montreal for tonight's game against the Canadiens. "Looking at Mats, he had a tough start. It didn't bother him. He just came to the rink and did the same things over and over again. He knew it was going to pay off. He still kept his head high and by the playoffs he was awesome.

"We've always put a lot of pressure on ourselves. You learn to deal with that. But Mats put us over the top to see how he handled things."

Henrik said: "To see Mats out there, struggling, getting criticized, but still keeping his shifts short - he never played for himself. I think that's been a key for us."

The Sedins couldn't get out of their way sometimes in difficult games, so encumbered were they with living up to expectations. The best example of this, Henrik said, was the 2007 Stanley Cup playoffs when the twins seemed to suffocate under pressure against the Anaheim Ducks and Dallas Stars. Unable to score, they changed their game, tried to do more and instead got worse.

"We just pushed so hard and couldn't get anything going and we were minus-10," Henrik said. "We just gave up chance after chance the other way. We tried so hard to get chances and beat those five guys from the other team by ourselves, instead of doing the easy thing like dumping pucks in and letting them make the mistakes."

It sounds simplistic, but what the twins have learned is to manage emotions, trusting themselves and their ability. They are great players. They can create scoring chances against anyone. Eventually they score.

Learn to read what I just posted moron.

go back to the kings page u whiny bitch lol, Sundin was a terrible signing and did nothing for this team

the Sedins became great players inspite of him, they were improving every year and he just happened to be a part of it. ok so they admired his professionalism, so what what do you think they're going to say? they probably idolized the guy growing up

So you trust that Gillis would have solved a cap issue with a good trade? If the last 2 seasons are any indication, Gillis would have created an even bigger mess with yet another idiotic move.

I think Kassian for Hodgson was a great trade

I think Luongo for Matthais+Markstrom was a great trade.

Compare Luongo's trade to other goalie trades. None gets you a young 3rd line center and a potential starter. Halak got you a draft pick. Hell, Miller who is arguably a better player didn't even get that much

I just want to ask some of you, what do you want Henrik to say? We don't need any more attention than we are getting. Any radical comment will just feed the idiotic media that will in turn make as look like an immature team. As for the complain about NTC, we are not like the only need team that have a bunch of them. Every elite team has around the same number of NTC as us. Yes we were elite two years ago when most of those contracts are signed.

The Schneider trade was an absolute disaster. The Luongo trade might have been OK if he hadn't already bent over for New Jersey, and if he hadn't been stupid enough to agree to RETAIN SALARY.

Both of those trades were simply unacceptable.

This thread has got to be one of the craziest lately.

Sedins are done

Kesler done

Bieksa,Edler, Garrison all done

Higgins Hansen done

Gillis done

Torts done

Aqualini done

CdC receives ownership right to the Vancouver Canucks

if the Garrison signing isn't the nail in the coffin for Gillis i've really lost all faith in onwership.

Right now we could have Salo and Erhoff instead of Garrison

Hamhuis Erhoff

Bieksa Edler

Tanev Salo

holy good god what a d core

Some of you guys are imploding like the team is.

Gillis has made some stupid mistakes, but he has made some good choices and moves too. The final stat is they missed the playoffs this year and he is the architect of the current team.

The question now is will the owners eat both contracts of Gillis and Torts?

The Sedins hit rock bottom this year - for a team with no first line they put up a good fight right to the end.

Who are we going to hire if we fire Gillis? Jay Feaster?

Don't forget, Gillis assembled a team that made it to the cup finals. For people who say he didn't he did. He was able to sign everyone to less than market value contracts.

He signed Mats Sundin and that literally was boss.

And for people who think he made bad trades and signings?

1) Richardson. Kassian-Richardson-Booth arguably a Stanley Cup contending third line. He brought in all 3 players

2) Ballard. Although in hindsight, it was a bad trade, at the time of the trade, everyone was ecstatic. We all thought he was a legit top 4 defensemen. I can pull up the thread and show all the positive reactions. No one would have thought he would drastically decline and fail to play well. In addition, Grabner would not have made our team if he had stayed. We had too many skilled players and we wanted to become more physical, hence the signing of raffi torres.

3) In addition, he made stellar draft picks and signings that are contributing now. Jensen, Tanev, Corrado. Not to mention Grenier, Lain, Gaunce, Horvat who have big chances of making it next year

Anyone who wants Gillis fires knows nothing about hockey.

No one. No one thought that. It was only you. And you were wrong,.. along with Gillis.

Agreed. Mats was never in his career worth 10 mil per never mind when he was old and slow.

I want him to show some emotion and show me he's pissed off. You know , like a captain of a team should. Even Nazzy showed some emotion at times.
