Younger fans between the ages of 13-18 see a player like Ehlers and can't help but think Kane and ignore all statistical and observational truth that tells us there is only a small small chance he'll become like Kane.

You're saying an eighteen year old and a thirteen year old think alike?..

Virtanen had 1g, 3a in 6 playoff games,

1/4 pp

2/4 brassart

regular season Brassart was in on 28% of Virtanen's points, does that make Virtanen's point total and game any less impressive?

Anyway, Virtanen will not be a Lindros but he is compared to Iginla in terms of style, not as talented but would Iginla be as effective......

Ehlers may end up being less talented than Kane just as Virtanen may end up being a Taylor Pyatt instead of an Iginla. Though I think I would rather take my chance's with a Raymond/Grabner hybrid than a Pyatt/Bernier hybrid. At least we would get more point production and entertainment out of the first hybrid.

Virtanen's teammates Brassart and Chase had approx 1 more point for every 3 games played. Does that make Virtanen less useful?

This is Ehlers' first season in North America not bad for a rookie. Yes Drouin is right now better than Ehlers just as Brassart and Chase are right now better than Virtanen, scoring at approx 1 more point for every 3 games. One difference is that Drouin and Ehlers are top 5 players in the Q and Virtanen and Brassart/Chase are not yet top 20 in the W.

However, that doesn't make Ehlers or Virtanen less talented than these other guys. Whoever the Canucks choose will be great though I believe in the course of their NHL careers Ehlers will have more points.

My comments were in response to other the people's comment, you're reading them out of context. Most would agree if crosby and malkin were on different teams they would still be amoung the top scorers in the league. I am not convince ehlers would be amoung the top level scorers without drouin on his team. The reason i think this is because drouin is a much better player than ehlers, unlike malkin and crosby who i think have similar levels of talent and ability to score in the regular season in the nhl. This is one of the reasons i would not draft him at 6.

How do i know this information is accurate?

My comments were in response to other the people's comment, you're reading them out of context. Most would agree if crosby and malkin were on different teams they would still be amoung the top scorers in the league. I am not convince ehlers would be amoung the top level scorers without drouin on his team. The reason i think this is because drouin is a much better player than ehlers, unlike malkin and crosby who i think have similar levels of talent and ability to score in the regular season in the nhl. This is one of the reasons i would not draft him at 6.

If you read the previous comments, you would know that Drouin does not spoon-feed him. They barely even play together. Mcdavid is surrounded by over-agers who are having massive seasons. Does that mean Mcdavid is a nothing? If anything, they learn from the over-agers. Ehlers gets to watch Drouin work magic every night and he takes that in. The reason why Mcdavid and Ehlers are highly touted despite the over-agers around them is because they have undeniable individual talent. Ehlers has individual talent and you're not making a clear point as to how Drouin affects Ehlers because it's been proven that he isn't being fed. He creates his own chances. I'll throw in another example. Horvat, Domi, Zadorov. They don't pump each others numbers and were all first rounders. Scouts barely factor in numbers. They look at the way a player plays. So in conclusion, why does it matter if they play together?

Why does it matter how much better Drouin is? If they're two of the best then they're two of the best... Doesn't matter the point differential. I made the Malkin/Crosby to show that two of the best playing together does not show that one is inflating the other's numbers. The malkin/crosby comparison is not extreme because they dominate the NHL while Ehlers and Drouin are top 4 in the Q. And then all of a sudden you start bringing up the comparison of Drouin and Ehlers

Most would agree if crosby and malkin were on different teams they would still amoung the top scorer in the nhl, we have seen how good they are for years and also seen that they are very good still when one is hurt, there is enough evidence to suggest this. You can't say that about ehlers and drouin because drouin is much better than ehlers (unlike malkin/crosby who have talent level that is similar). I don't beleive that without drouin ehlers would be a top scorer. It appears there is general consensus on this board that ehelrs' points would be less without drouin on his team.

Nobody cares about points. It's the individual talent that he has. Scouts and teams could care less about his points. They look at his skills, his arsenal. He has loads of skill and it isn't from Drouin. Mackinnon and Drouin played together, it doesn't make either any less incredible. Seth Jones was on a winning team in Portland, it doesn't make him any less amazing.

Because on this forum one of the main things people have to support that ehlers is a good pick at 6 are his numbers, and his hypothetical numbers playing without drouin, and how many of his points were scored with drouin being involved on the scoresheet. Numbers are only part of the equation. McDavid is doing what he is doing a year younger than Ehlers, he is bigger, he is a center who plays well in both ends of the ice. Ehlers is nowhere near the prospect Mcdavid is, Mcdavid is in the same category as Crosby. I didn't say Ehlers wasn't a first rounder, i think there are better choices at 6, none of the 3 London players were drafted higher than 9.

Then why do you keep referencing that only 30% of ehelrs' points involve drouin?

Quite the threshold narrative here.

Yes and since he more than probably wont be as good as #1 st overall OT cup scoring 2 time cup winning and conn smythe silver medal winning Kane................then we cant draft the guy at all.

Kane or bust folks.

Or....

Some of us actually watch him play, and we see how good he is, and we see the upside, and we understand why such great things are said about him and why he put up the numbers he did.

Some of the people knocking him are the ones doing what you said. (looking into the scoresheets and then oversimplifying things)

Give him some credit. That is the most I have seen the guy backpeddle in the last week. ::D

IDK, you get off your lazy butt and check it yourself?

What, you want me to do the shopping, cook the food, set the table and hand feed you too?

I'm not even involved in the debate. I just provided the data.

Y'all welcome.

Whats more important is how many of those were 4-0 5-0 and 6-1 padder goals.

Of his goals...

I would say he did some stat padding toward the end of the year but he also had a season long penchant for scoring the 1st goal of the game…. 10 times exactly.

15 Go Ahead Goals

5 Tying Goals

11 To Go Up By Two Goals

I do see that he only had 1 Catch Up Goal all year, when combined with his 5 Tying Goals means he only scored 6 times all year when his team was behind, which could be a concern in most cases but it needs to be noted that Halifax wasn't behind much all year. It does suggest that he can be neutralized against certain opponents though.
