@AbsentCanuck

I AM saying if we take a risk we should take Nylander or Ehlers. I like Ehlers more than Nylander, but I think Nylander has a higher ceiling therefor he would be MY first choice

You seem to misinterpret what I am trying to say and are coming to the assumption that I hate Ehlers and am just trying to provoke you. Well I'm not and I apologize for upsetting you and hope you give me the same apology.

Ok. I apologize for ...............giving it to a guy who is infamous for going around to different threads to talk about anything but the actual subject at hand. Well I am not. :P

I am sorry if it upset you. I think you are a good guy. No doubt.

I think Nylander has a higher ceiling than Ehlers .

Nylander is my second choice. I dont shed a tear if we pick him..........or Ritchie but he is third on my personal preference.

If we look at the mock draft , the newer ones have Nylander above ritchie and Ehlers behind him. I am ok with any of them.

Man this is crazy. Canucks fans bout to kill each other over nothing. I think we should get back on topic. I think ehlers is really good and I would be happy if we got him. I also really like virtanen . I wouldn't mind either. I'm also intrigued by Ritchie, if he lives up to his potential he could dominate.

Can I ask how you would know something as arcane as this and why you would possibly care? Does caring about something like this seem reasonable to you?

you joined july 2013. Have almost 4k posts. Idk why you question how he knew that

Ok this entire post is all personal attacks. Give it a rest man.

Isn't that all your posts?

I am all for conversation as long as its positive like this . Its the put downs, personal attacks and never ending sniping that wrecks it for everyone.

I actually want both Ehlers and Virtanen. That would be my wish. I cant take him at #6 but if we got one of theNylander, Ehlers, Ritchie package at #6 and then got an opportunity to draft at #9 or 10 yeah I take Virtanen.

Just when we thought we were out and back to positive vibes, you come here to spit this? How could something like that matter to you ? None of this involved you . :picard:

As stupid as most of this thread is, it's got what 50 pages on the other threads of players we might draft? It's pretty clear this kid generates interest be it good or bad, from a business perspective he's the clear choice. Not saying it's who i'd pick, but for a franchise that has seen fans lose some interest i'm sure it's a factor.

I didnt see this part . My apologies. I agree for certain.

If anyone falls out of the top 5 then of course we grab them. There is a top tier of 5 guys in my opinion. From 6 to 12 it is a revolving order of basically the same guys. I wonder if trading down to #10 will give you the same quality guy as 6.

I would love to draft Reinhart but its a suspension of disbelief that he could fall to #6.

I would be completely fine with moving down for a good asset and picking Haydn Fleury or Alex Tuch.

You bring up a great point. Ehlers as a prospect has generated more support not only here but on HF boards than any other prospect. Including Ekblad.

I remember how much excitement Cody Hodgson brought to the city when he was drafted. And that brings up another point for me about Virtanen. If Ehlers bombs, the guy can go elsewhere and if he bombs everywhere I am sure they have a job for him in Sweden or Denmark.

Where does Virtanen go if he bombs  If we do draft him I hope the city doesnt put him through the emotional meat grinder

At least this should take some pressure of Bo.

One major concern I have regarding Ehlers' goals is how many of them came against bottom feeder teams. In fact, this was true of most of his points especially so as the season went on and the checking got tighter.

That raises questions for me about how ably he is capable of being shutdown by top talent on the opposition. It's possible that some coaching staffs have him figured out.

He has very good metrics against bad teams, by scoring early and often, but had very few of his goals against the top teams of Val d'Or, Baie-Comeau, Blainville-Boisbriand, Drummondville and Rimouski.

He had 26 of his goals against the bottom 5 teams in the league (Sherbrooke, Saint John, Shawinigan, Charlottetown, and Acadie-Bathurst) but only 3 against the top 5 teams.

^He also had 28pts in 16 PLAYOFF games, so there's that

That's true but he also had 10 of those points in 4 games vs Charlottetown who was a bad team. Now that leaves 18 points in 12 games…. still good.

However, he also had 10 points in 5 games in the next round vs Gatineau, who wasn't a top tier team all year, leaving him 8 in 7 games vs Val d'Or.

That's pretty good considering how good VDO was this year but it puts the numbers into better perspective IMO.

Disregard the analysis if you want to but it means something to me, in my experience.

Hi mr duplicate account of someone who has a vested interest in this thread. Nice to see you just joined but most of your posts are about the draft and whom to draft in particular.

You cherry picked the one list where he is the lowest, yet has Perlini and Fabbri higher than any of them save Nylander.

ISS and Central Scouting are names. Thats it. They are not the 'official' scouting of the NHL . Scouts work for teams. They generally dont share records with other scouts. So what you have is a whole host of factions wandering around compiling draft lists. The track records for prediction by ISS and Central scouting are not stellar. Bob MacKenzie is one analyst who doesnt even go anywhere and his lists are far more accurate.

If you guys want to play the 'cherry pick the scouting agency' where your guy is ranked highest or in this case the prospect you despise is lowest, then all you get is a never ending finger pointing which revolves nothing.

Ehlers himself is listed in the top 5 of 3 different 'lists' ................and Ritchie is rated 6th in one, and below in every other. That doesnt mean we use it as a club to beat Ritchie over the head with. Its just mock draft lists.

If you want the best guy I have found whose mock draft ended up closest to the actual draft, try this guy. His mock drafts go back to 2007. He is pretty good.

http://www.mynhldraft.com/2014-nhl-draft-prospect-rankings/

As you can see from his own draft list, he is currently high on Kapanen this week. If you take him out , then Nylander, Ritchie , Ehlers and Virtanen are log jammed right in the convoluted 6 to 10 spots .

Here are consensus rankings which are updated regularly.

http://www.mynhldraft.com/2014-nhl-draft-prospect-rankings/

If you click on the consensus list, Ehlers is at #7. That May 15th ESPN list is like... wtf? Dal Colle 8? Nylander 3rd?
