So Blizzard is stepping into the world of FPS gaming with their new game Overwatch. Beta sign up has begun and the release is sometime 2015 with Blizzard only stating "The release is closer than you think." Here is a small quote on the game:

The action of Overwatch takes place in a technologically advanced, highly stylized future earth. In a time of global crisis, an international task force of soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities known as Overwatch had come together to restore peace to a war-torn world. After many years, the group’s influence waned, and it was eventually disbanded. Overwatch might be gone now . . . but the world still needs heroes.

With an emphasis on accessibility and pure fun, Overwatch brings Blizzard’s signature easy-to-learn, hard-to-master gameplay to the FPS genre. Harnessing the power of their hero of choice, players will join forces in teams of six and battle each other across a range of futuristic global locations, from the hologram-lit streets of London to a bazaar in the shadows of a high-tech Egyptian pyramid. Every battlefield is iconic and built to highlight each character’s unique abilities, and fights can shift from streets to rooftops to open skies within the span of a breath.

“Overwatch is our take on a vibrant, near-future universe with amped-up characters and action-packed team-based gameplay,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With every new Blizzard game, we look at our favorite aspects of a genre and put our own spin on things. Our goal with Overwatch is to create an awesome FPS experience that’s more accessible to a much wider audience while delivering the action and depth that shooter fans love. via-businesswire

The game basically looks like a new Team Fortress game. Being made by Blizzard is interesting to see how they enter the FPS market. Here is a gameplay trailer as well:

apparently this is a restructuring of the PVP element from Blizzard's now defunct MMO project, Titan

as a long time FPS player, i'm excited to finally have something to play that isn't called Call of Duty or Battlefield. even if it does look like a TF2 clone, it'll be fresh at least for a little while

They need to revamp the 3rd person series of socom for the sony station.

how much will blizzard charge per month on this and can I get epic lutez for killing rare players??

If I had to guess they won't have a monthly charge. More like Diablo where there's a one time cost. Of course, every year or so they will have new content via an expansion to buy.

It's only WoW that they charge monthly to as far as I know.

And of course you will get epic loot for killing rare players. It IS blizz after all. Like all good engineers, they know "design reuse" is the oldest and best trick in the book!

No storyline. No singleplayer. Team combat only in small enclosed maps. Im sure they will do a good job of it but Im not interested.

EDIT: PC and Mac only....thats gonna hurt sales.

Did WoW being on PC only hurt sales?
