Bonino is scoring 2.25pp60 to Kesler's 2.21pp60 - and Bonino has scored more even strength points than Kesler.

Bonino has more takeaways, a better turnover differential - as well as a better plus/minus.

Bonino has better underlying numbers with slightly less offensive zone starts.

Kesler has won more faceoffs.

Bonino is holding his own quite nicely.

Boom.

Not to mention... He makes less than half of keslers cap hit, makes his wingers better, passes the puck and he's arguably the greatest beauty of all time.

BONINO! BONINO! BONINO!

Yeah, Bonino is still providing good value, especially in terms of production versus cap hit, and has been a pleasant surprise in his ability to mitigate any drop-off from Kesler's departure.

That said, it was definitely a hell of a lot more fun before the slump, when he was outpacing Kesler on nearly every metric, in terms of both standard/conventional stats and advanced stats.

It's great that he's still "holding his own" versus Kesler, but it was damn satisfying when Bonino was leaving Kes in his dust on nearly every level.

EDIT: typos

I for one never wants to include money on the talk, because they're both completely different things. If kesler is not doing well having 5 goals and 7 assist this way to the season, in game hockey he's not successfull but in life, which is how wealthy one are, he is successful.

But thanks for bringing that up robin hood, the native land of the brave

Edit: space

So what you're saying is that money is arbitrarily given out to players?

Production/Contribution of some sort is why a player gets paid for what he does. Sometimes you're paying for potential, sometimes it is to overpay to retain him - nevertheless, your post was absolutely absurd. It was a post that had nothing to offer in terms of insight and seemed to be merely to defend your indefensible post.

Ah, I was thinking that carefully selected advanced stats on Bonino (1g, 1a -7 in his last 10gp) were a bit overdue. Thanks for the positive spin.

Ah, but is he a 2nd line center?

Don't let those objective outcomes get in the way of your poo goggles Ban.

And what would his stats look like if they weren't padded by that 1 powerplay point?

Clearly Bonino is riding the coat-tails of superstars providing the illusion that he's a top 6, no?

Not sure. He's currently centering Derek Dorsett and a stone-cold (10gp 1g 0a -6) Chris Higgins.

So, the Getzlaf-Perry powerplay prop thing - not really in effect.

Interesting - Bonino also facing the strongest quality of competition on the Canucks.

Hmmm. Combined with among the lowest offensive zone starts on the team, his even strength production would seem pretty darn impressive in that context - even if snakebitten for a stretch here. And some strong and positive underlying numbers. No need to be selective at all really, or spin them. They'd appear to speak for themselves.

Apparently Bonino doesn't need to be sheltered at all.
