What did the Hawks do this offseason.

After a disappointing post-season, the Hawks have made several moves.

Young forwards Nick Bjugstad and Dmitrij Jaskin were dealt for picks and prospects, returning a 1st, 2nd and Robert Hagg.

"We simply don't have the cap space, especially with some big contract extensions coming up" said GM PK. "We have some young cheap talent coming up, who should be able to fill in."

Two rookies will be making their debut on the Hawks roster. Former 2016 1st round pick, Rasmus Asplund and Ville Pokka.

"These two guys have high pedigrees, and we know they will make an impact for us this season."

As usual, GM PK brought back a couple of former Blackhawks, starting off with fan favorite, Patrick Sharp.

This was an unexpected return, but the management, team and fans are ecstatic to have Patrick Sharp back on board.

"We know he's on the brink of retirement, but he's still a good player, and it would be a shame if he didn't retire as a Blackhawk. We hope he can rekindle his chemistry with Toews."

Another Blackhawk that returned, albeit a very short stint, was Radim Vrbata.

"We were interested in getting a veteran winger to replace Marian Gaborik, who just retired."

Vrbata still is a great scorer, and has played many years beside countryman Martin Hanzal.

And finally, the last Blackhawk that was brought in was Antti Raanta. A very solid backup goaltender, who they locked up for 3 seasons.

Hawks also made two minor depth moves in signing Patrick Maroon and claiming Andreas Martinsen.

"Andreas is a solid player, and at a 250K cap hit, I could not pass up on the opportunity to have cheap depth in the lineup."

All in all, fans may not be super optimistic about this upcoming season, but the Hawks still have the core of Toews, Kane, Panarin, Keith, Seabrook, Schneider and a solid veteran supporting cast in Hjalmarsson, Kesler, Ladd, Sharp, Hanzal, Vrbata and Klein. Plus two 1st round picks, two 2nd round picks and a 3rd will greatly stock up a depleted prospect pool.

This off-season the Stars made a decision to get bigger, better defensively, and stronger in the faceoff circle. With our recent acquisitions in Nick Bjugstad, Valtteri Filppula, Scott Hartnell, and Dan Girardi as well as NHL readied Per-Albin Andersen we feel we have successfully done exactly that.

Nashville Predators Off-Season Review...

After being eliminated in game 7 to the Dallas Stars in round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Nashville Predators made a few significant changes to their roster, without sacrificing much in the process.

Right as the playoffs ended, the Preds traded away Voynov who was acquired at the deadline for Jake Muzzin, and Jacob Larsson. While it was a tough trade because Voynov had quite a bit of chemistry with Josi, the Predators needed some younger assets and the offer was just too good to refuse in the end. Shortly after, the Preds also went out and acquired Joel Armia and Cody Eakin in exchange for Wilson and a pick, both of whom are expected to help create a little more offense for Nashville this season as it was one of the weaker elements of the team last year.

As the draft came around, the Predators drafted Andrei Svechnikov in the 1st round, and Fredrick-Carl Magnusson in the 2nd round to add to their fairly depleted prospect pool. With Svechnikov, Magnusson, Larsson and Tapio added since mid-season last year to the system, it makes what was an empty pool at the beginning of the year much more appealing.

And in free agency, the Predators acquired Giordano, who will be playing beside Josi in the hopes that it bolsters the teams offence as it was the weakest point of the team last season. Also signed was McGinn and Downie to add a bit of grit to the 4th line.

Going into the season, we're very excited to ice what could possibly be the Predators best roster in years from top to bottom. With Rinne on the last year of his contract there is a good possibility he will not be re-signed at the end of the season so this would likely be his last chance to win a cup with Nashville.

Vesey - Johansen - Neal
Fiala - Eakin - Forsberg
Read - Little - Armia
Komarov - Hodgson - McGinn

Giordano - Josi
Muzzin - Ellis
Petry - Bigras

Rinne

We will not match the offersheet on Jujhar Khaira.

Happy to add Lars Eller, he will slot in as our 3rd line LW, also happy to bring back Paul Byron at a very cheap cost compared to his asking price in the re-sign stage.
