Blömqvist
*Dealing at the trade deadline if we're out of a playoff spot and Benning decides to go into sell mode... EDITED PROPOSAL: 2 hours ago, Blömqvist said: Value-wise not enough for just Edler? What if, instead of taking on Fleury or adding a 1st Round draft pick to their side and considering the drop in stock for Pouliot the trade is modified to... PIT: Edler VAN: Maatta and Sprong ORIGINAL PROPOSAL PIT: Edler and Miller at 50% VAN: Pouliot, Sprong, and Fleury Edler and Miller go to a contender where they have a legitimate shot at winning a cup. Pittsburgh gets a top pairing defenseman on a good contract and still in his prime. Edler can play top minutes alongside Letang or anchor the second pairing and mentor their young players in Maatta and Schultz. Miller gives the Penguins a solid backup in case something happens to Murray. They also receive cap relief of $5.75M for the next two years as Fleury's contract lasts until the 2018.19 season and Miller's contract ends this year. To recap, Pittsburgh gets a top-pairing defenseman, a better 1B goaltender, and cap relief. Vancouver gets an offensive defenseman who has had a bit of trouble adjusting to the NHL game but can still develop into a top-4 defenseman, a speedy high-skilled winger that can develop into a top-6 role or better, and a goalie who can split starts with Markstrom and give Demko more time in the AHL to develop and refine his craft. To recap, Vancouver gets two prospects (potential offensive top-4D and potential speedy skilled top-6 winger) and a backup goaltender. Thoughts? underrated
I wouldn't take Fleury, he's just not that good anymore. Edler is worth Pouliot and Sprong alone. I wouldn't make this deal.
terrible.dee
I think they are a "Below the cap team" and DO have to keep an eye on the bottom line, That means no superfluous spending allowed, which is what you are proposing, that they take on unneeded salary to buy a little insurance for a possible run. This is the exact opposite of something they would be interested in, Now if you agree to take Jack Johnston off their hands maybe now they are interested, or anyone else whose salary may not equal their contributions. They MIGHT be willing to give up futures for more financial flexibility.

theilluminati
So do you leave Fleury or Markstrom unprotected for the expansion draft in June? Doesn't seem like that even entered the OP's mind while coming up with this proposal.
Fanuck
No way I can see Fleury waiving his M-NTC/NMC for Van - even if it means riding the bench in Pittsburgh. If he goes anywhere - count on it being to a legit playoff team.

elvis15
I definitely wouldn't want Fleury and his contract for this year plus two more. His NMC on top of the limited-NTC makes it tough to see this happening, and makes it tougher yet for us with two goalies we'd want to protect in the expansion draft. We can only protect one, and the one with the NMC has to be protected which would leave Markstrom unprotected.

I don't think they'd trade a young Stanley Cup champion defenseman; who is very comparable to Juolevi, and a top prospect in Sprong for a solid top 4 defenseman on a contending team in Edler. I don't think Edler would allow any trade to happen anyways. But everyone has a price I suppose...
Katobaron
No one is "forced" to take on the contract of a 32 year old goalie with two cup rings. Since when does Fleury have such negative value?
