Canuck Surfer Posted October 27, 2018 Share Posted October 27, 2018 OK, so some time to reflect on the first month at South Beach? Florida did not have enough depth. And we had some injuries, so plummeted a bit. Where are we, 26th? We had some calls to see if we're in ''rebuild mode!?'' Not the case. We had 60 point D man Seth Jones out to start the season. He's back now. And top 6 young gun Jesper Bratt who had 35 points as a rookie. He's also due soon. We already in the bottom 1/3rd of the league in average age? Juuso Riikola playing top 4 minutes in Pitt is a nice surprise! 7 NHL D + 1 on the IR age 24 and under. Our top 2 pivots look as they will score 150 points; one is 26 the other 20. We think we have a few good vets to see us through the balance our younger players hitting their prime. Which should be sooner than later. We might or might not make the play off's? That was our projection to start the year as well. Its time to relax & build, not panic. We did consider moving a vet for two up and coming players. A decent opportunity came and went. We're going to back our squad for the moment! 26 year old Ryan Johansen is certainly not on the market. Barring the unexpected. Although he's a popular call to this GM. Depending on how things go, we're leaning to contract negotiations with some of our players. By late this year, early next we'll have some young players start to fill the depth roles; Tyler Benson & Chlapik are already looking due for a call up. Maenalanen is going ok in the AHL as well. Jakub Lauko & Ty Smith were already near misses as roster players at camp? And some of our young roster players, possibly / probably Riikola, Vince Dunn, Djoos and Sanheim should find their NHL legs and start scoring.
