Watson isn't exactly a character guy with his history of domestic violence.  Not a good look especially after Virtanen.  Schmidt also likely rejects Columbus if his NTC is still valid, and our defense is absolutely atrocious without a D coming back.

Watson can be bought out or sent to the AHL and he is just a salary dump to make the cap numbers work so all teams are moving out at least $5 Million and Schmidt has a modified NTC so if Columbus is not on his list then too bad for Schmidt since he is the one wanting out

Columbus is almost definitely on his list.  Buying out Watson just prolongs our cap issues, and you don't want a scumbag like that on your AHL team around the kids.

Who cares about Watson, just dump him in the minors and that’s it. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill buddy

How is a $1.5 Million buyout going to “prolong cap issues”?

How do you know what his list is, last time I checked he was the player wanting out and not many teams can take on his term and cap hit during a flat cap and he is going to have to understand that, plus he will most likely be playing top pair minutes once Seth Jones is traded

Because we have a bunch of young players who will be in the minors, and will have Watson teaching them how to act on and off the ice.  $1.5 million for more than one year is stupid.  It could be the difference between a Virtanen and a Toffoli.

So we give up Schmidt, OJ, and Lind for Tierney?  We’re getting ripped off!

No the Canucks are giving up Juolevi and Lind to trade Schmidt’s 4 years and $5.9 Million contract during a flat cap which is not going to be easy to trade.
Juolevi has been leap frogged by Rathbone, Lind is a tweener that used his invisibility cloak when he played for the Canucks and at least the Canucks get a 3C in Tierney and a 4C in Logan Brown and didn’t cost them much

So you’re suggesting Schmidt is a cap dump that needs sweetener?

He doesn’t have to go to Abbotsford, he can be loaned to another AHL team, seriously Ned Flanders take it down a notch I can hear your winning through your post

$1.5 Million for 2 years is the cost of moving Schmidt and your precious “prolonged cap issues” is only 500k cap hit over 4 years if bought out, so again you are making something out of nothing

Yes, not a lot of teams can and will take $5.9 Million over 4 years unless you take back their reclamation projects or garbage contracts

This 3 way trade at least gets the Canucks 3C and 4C, Ottawa gets someone who did score and got rid of Watson and Tierney for assets and Columbus gets top 4 defenseman now and top pairing defenseman when Seth Jones is traded and no one had to trade draft picks

Schmidt is either not good enough to play on the the top pairing for Columbus, or is movable without a sweetener.
