TRADE: The Los Angeles Kings have made a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

A franchise-altering trade. What more can be said?

When we took over LA we knew we had some work to do - the first thing that happened was we lost Kevin Fiala to the expansion draft due to no protection list being submitted by previous management, and a quick look at the teams draft record over the past three years (one 4th-round selection in 2018 - Matej Parker) showed why there was a dramatic lack of depth in the system. So it was no surprise that looking to the future was a major focus for us. Combine that with the injuries we sustained this year and a decision with a capital R was made: Rebuild.

But the team we inherited had also been very solid over the recent years at the NHL level - sustained playoff success with a number of excellent veterans that deserved the trade-protection they earned. So what could we do? Well, we approached them to chat about our plans for the future and we wanted to do right by them: would these quality veterans at the stages of their careers they were in want to stick around for a likely prolonged rebuild? We would've been very happy to keep them around - but would they have been?

And so it came to be that Sergei Bobrovsky, one of the best starters in a great playoff situation this year, became the focus of multiple trade talks - and one that got very far along with another Eastern team. But some no-trade bumps and situations arose that required some extra time to iron out - and unfortunately for them Columbus came out of the blue with the above offer and we pretty much jumped at the chance. Sure, we needed to approach Mattias Ekholm as well to discuss his future too, but it became clear to both Sergei and Mattias that joining the Blue Jackets and chasing the cup at this point in there careers was optimal for them. We wish them, as well as Ryan Reaves, the best of luck with @Rush17 and his Jackets and thank them for their time as Kings.

As for the return we received, we just felt that adding a pair of quality 25-year-olds in Mackenzie Blackwood and Travis Sanheim would reset our timeline and that they'd be more in line with a contending window a few more years down the road. Getting a young starting netminder and a young top-4 d-man was important to us. But what made us really jump at this opportunity was the chance to bring in Kaiden Guhle - our blueline pipline was barren and we have been on the lookout for a blue-chip defender all season, and Kaiden fits that bill. With both Matthew Coronato and Kaiden Guhle now in the pipeline, all of a sudden we think the future of the Kings looks a whole lot brighter.

Having served in LA for a season, I’d like to send my congratulations. I had been focusing on not spending the assets, as was only to be there short term. The timing was certainly ideal, and this was the moment to move Bob. Well done!

As far as the expansion draft goes, and as your division rival, don’t Fiala bad about it bro, it wasn’t your fault. :frantic::lol:

We are very happy to bring in some veteran experience and leadership to further compliment our youth. It is a bittersweet day to see these fine young gentleman leave the organization. There comes a time though where a team shows you want to win and you feel obligated to give them the pieces to help make that possible. With the early season move to acquire Jack Eichel we honestly thought our season was going to be lost. We had already traded our 2022 first round pick and the outlook didn't look bright. But these players banded together and battled their way to the top of the standings. At the time of this trade we were sitting 5th in the GML and had been around there consistently for 6 weeks. It was time to bring in some veteran support and leadership.

It is a sad day to see such talented young players depart the organization. The loss of Kaiden Guhle is a tough one for me personally. He was my 2nd ever selected draftee and a player I have great faith in as an nhl prospect. Maybe one day we will be lucky enough to re-acquire him but at this time we decided to make the move for the rest of the group. We wish Travis, Mac, and Kaiden well in LA! Their rebuidling efforts are starting to pay off and I look forward to seeing what @arby18_ is able to build across the plains in the great city of Los Angeles.

We look forward to seeing what a team with Bob, Mattias, and Jack can bring to this club. Ryan served here for a year and a half prior to us moving him to acquire Parayko from the Aves. We are happy to have him back! He was a good guy in our locker room. His presence was noticably missed upon his departure!

Breaking........

Late Friday evening the League's office received multiple trade calls.

Details to be announced on Saturday, word is two Western clubs otherwise foes came together and hashed out a trade with two potentially key Playoff pieces going one way.

In another deal, an Eastern club strengthened their Playoff presence with a late night addition.

More to come!

Man TML have sucked.. 2 playoff appearances all time in GML? damn.. Well we are for sure going to change that script over these next few years, and hopefully bring a championship in the process.

@Mike VanderhoekI had no part in the 2019/20 season. When you get the chance could you fix that up for me? I was Brock Botanen before I changed my username

When you get a chance to acquire FIRST PAIRING Luke Schenn, you have to do it.

We felt that adding Rathbone, Chytil, and picks was the price to move Pesce. It was very hard to do but we felt now was the time sell high and add more youth.

All of our deals have been to add youth and open financial flexibility going forward and we accomplish that here.
