We felt the price was high but it's not often you can add a guy like Aaron Ekblad to your team and with the large amount of picks/prospects we have at our disposal, we felt that it was time to make a push. Arizona is still looking to add more playoff players and could be willing to move the likes of Rickard Rakell, Brandon Hagel, Matt Roy, as well as picks/prospects. We are also in the market for a playoff goalie. This was a bit of a random inquiry I had sent out with a few gm's who had some of the prized D prospects from the 2020 and 2021 Drafts. I figured why not explore the possibility of adding a younger defender who fits within my age group. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect but I got a bite early from @Mike Vanderhoek and gave it a few minutes to process then pulled the trigger. I have Edvinsson in gml as well and am a big fan of where his game is going. We definitely wouldn't have been able to get full value out of Serg given the current state of our team. We had every intention of re-signing him but when the thought crossed my mind - I had to explore it. We are very pleased with this addition and believe we could see Simon over in the NJ system possibly as early as next season. Whether that be in the AHL or NHL. Another year of development in the SHL wouldn't hurt either! Simon was one of the standout defenders at the brief but always enjoyable 2022 World Jr. Championships. After turning down multiple inquiries from interested teams in the summer and now the winter, Rask is now open to considering offers from all interested parties in CDCFL.
