But he isn't Barzal. And your proposed deal won't happen for exactly that reason. Barzal is NYI's franchise player and they won't trade him because he has a 20 game slump. I’m a Barzal fan too and understand his speed and stick speed plus durability. He may even be as fast as McDavid. But I never said Pettersson was Barzal. I’m saying you’re undermining what Pettersson can do when he’s not in the mental funk he’s in now. He most definitely can go through a team and score and take on four players. The clips I pasted show it. It’s not even a matter of who is or will be a better player. It’s a matter of them being a different style of players. Pettersson is 6’2 to 6’3 and 185 Lbs before losing 5 pounds in-season. Barzal is 6’0 to 6’1 and 192 Lbs before losing 5 pounds in-season. Pettersson is a smooth lateral puck handler with patience, vision, a long reach, a hard shot, and an Elite touch of creativity. Barzal is a fast-twitch muscle style puck handler at constantly changing angles with a great IQ for anticipation and quick, agile, stable feet. Pettersson needs to make his frame and balance a little more durable, add some more power, and work on his mental game. Barzal needs to learn to pace himself at times and be a little more aware, add some more power (mainly to his shot as it will keep opposition more honest that they won’t be expecting only his usual punch-stop spins or passes), and work on his positioning. By the way this isn’t my proposal/thread . That being said you could also say Pettersson is Vancouvers franchise player and they won’t trade him because of a 20 game slump (or even season slump). The proposal would tempt the Islanders though. As is stands Pettersson is up there with Barzal, they need a LHD, they’re loaded with injuries while wanting to win now and one of those is their top D-man in Ryan Pulock on LTIR. A desperate team wanting to win now just might trade Barzal. IMO I would do this… Canucks: Barzal Aho Johnston (Conditional) 2nd 2022 7th 2023 Islanders: Miller Hamonic Rathbone Lockwood 1st 2022 1st 2024 3rd 2024 VAN Hoglander -Pettersson- Boeser Dickinson -Barzal- Garland Pearson -Horvat- Podkolzin Johnston -Lammikko- Motte Dowling/Dries Chiasson Ekman-Larsson - Myers Hughes - Schenn Aho - Poolman Hunt/Brisebois - Burroughs Demko Halak LTIR: Highmore Keeper Sutter Ferland NYI Lee -Miller- Wahlstrom Bailey -Pageau- Palmieri Beauvillier -Nelson- Clutterbuck Parise -Cizikas- Czarnik/Lockwood Martin -Bellows- Panik Pelech - Mayfield Chara - Dobson Hickey - Hamonic Greene/Rathbone - LaDue Varlamov Sorokin LTIR: Pulock Edited December 1, 2021 by ZH96

The islanders get an extra year on a player with club control and Rathbone could be a powerplay specialist. May need a throw in from the islanders to balance their cap. They have a lot of players on LTIR right now. Bring the kid home! Get er Done Trader Jim or whoever is the GM! Flame Away! Oh please stop. If the rumours are true then let the new coach make the decisions. Petey missed all of training camp. We seen this with other players trying to catch up. Will problem is now we have OEL, so we won't be done with Timrafan for another 5.5 seasons. Maybe longer if we keep drafting Swedes.
The Lock
I just do not see this working for the following reasons: 1. Barzal is one of the most important arguably the most important player, in the Islanders. We'd have to overpay to get him. 2. Our situation right now puts us at a disadvantage with negotiating. We look desperate at this point. 3. Barzal is being paid less than Pettersson, which is another factor that brings up Barzal's value. I know why Barzal is being brought up here: he's a BC boy and people on this board are attached to BC boys no matter if they make sense to trade for or not. One other thing I will say, anyone throwing in Dobson IN ADDITION TO Barzal is just being plain silly.Barzal alone is unlikely to happen. Barzal and Dobson? Might as well try and get McDavid for Pettersson while you're at it. lol
