WEVEGOTMOTTE
To NYI: Elias Pettersson Jack Rathbone To Van: Matthew Barzal Both Players are struggling and a change of scenery could make a big difference. The islanders get an extra year on a player with club control and Rathbone could be a powerplay specialist. May need a throw in from the islanders to balance their cap. They have a lot of players on LTIR right now. Bring the kid home! Get er Done Trader Jim or whoever is the GM! Flame Away! 1
Coconuts
I just don't see the Islanders being prepared to give up on Barzal given how the season has gone for their entire team. A quarter of a season doesn't make a guy like Barzal expendable.
singing chef
Why do we have to include Rathbone ? Wouldn't a straight one-for-one swap suffice ? 1 1

Alflives
We give up too much. Petey is a far better player without the puck than Barzel. Bone is going to be a star. Miller for Barzal + is something that's more fair.

Barzal has scored "a lot" more points in the league for the simple fact he has played "a lot" more games in the league. Barzal 306 games, 260 points, 0.85 ppg. Pettersson 188 games, 164 points, 0.87 ppg. Seems like their careers are on similar trajectory at this juncture.

Barzals rookie season he had 85 points in 82 games. Since then he’s still matched Petterssons highs. Petterssons best season is 66 points in 68 games. Also in not even three full seasons Pettersson has missed a combined 42 games to injury. Where as with Barzal in four full seasons he’s only missed 5 games and only one was due to an actual injury… (four games with an illness in 2016). It's important to consider scoring rates (points/ game) and not just scoring amounts (despite one playing a lot more games) otherwise by that logic some 3rd liner who's played years in the league could be more valuable than a rookie who hasn't scored much in the league. I was merely pointing out the reason Barzal had more points (played more games) while their ppg are identical. That's all.
#Canucks
Barzal is not leaving new york even if he only gets 1 point all season. They are not going to give up on him. But I would do the trade Barzal for Petey if it were on the table. 1 for 1.
*Buzzsaw*
Never happen. Barzal is more valuable than Pettersson. Rathbone is a small prospect. Barzal is a player who can dominate a game... he can make plays on his own 1 on 4. Pettersson is a great shooter and good passer, but doesn't have the ability to go through an opposing team on his own and score. Alflives
Miller + Pearson for Barzel + Dobson. Islanders might need to add a second.

And your proposed deal won't happen for exactly that reason. Barzal is NYI's franchise player and they won't trade him because he has a 20 game slump.
