Ya, considering how many elite stars on big Euro clubs come from Africa.  The talent has always been there.   It was just putting it together with the tactics to be able to compete.

N America is next.  Hopefully next WC on home soil.

So it looks like nobody can score on Morocco. Hard to believe, but Morocco hasn’t conceded a goal since June 13th in the Africa Cup of Nations except to one team: Canada. Croatia has also been unbeaten coincidentally since June 3rd.

Canada really was in the unexpected Group of Death this year. We had no shot of advancing. I’m even more proud now of their performance in our return to a World Cup and against these 2 teams that no one in the world can seem to beat.

I'd argue that more stars are born and raised in Europe but have African origins through their ancestry than the other way around.

It was not unexpected. World cup runner up, world cup bronze and an always strong, stingy and pesky Moroccan team. Ignorance was bliss but to those not ignorant, it was clear as day that Canada's chances were hovering around 0.1%. Something to build off of for the next world cup for this bright young generation of canadian footballers.

It's the dual national thing.  Canada has been burned and has benefited from it.

Still, the talent has been there.  It was only a matter of time.

Yes, but at what points do those players become nationals? France won the world cup with 21 players born and raised there, and the other 2 raised in france earlier than 4 years old. They were mocked for being an african team, which is absolutely ludicrous. You are allowed to be european AND of colour.

Yup.  Immigration is a thing.

Immigration is the only reason Canada has now arrived on the World Cup stage. In fact if we didn’t welcome people born elsewhere to our country most national teams in any sport except hockey would be terrible. It makes us a stronger nation both on and off the playing surface.

About time. It's World cup, not Euro and S American cup.

You can't argue this could only help the game moving forward and fantastic to see. Hopefully in the next couple of WCs we can see a North American and/or Asian team in the semis.

I would like to see a first time WC winner so will be cheering for Morocco but wouldn't mind seeing Croatia win the whole thing either.
