I think the winning at the end just gives me bad vibes of how this team does this every year and the retool is part of it. They have tried and tried and when they made the Hronek deal and it wreaked of speeding up the process. Trading picks every year has hurt this franchise long term. The winning now gives them I am sure that good feeling they have gotten every year. It just hasn't translated to the next year so when people say oh wait until next year its like ya but we said that last year and we hear the players talk every year about starting out strong. It's a combination of things. A eye roll tends to happen until they change the storyline.

You do realize Hronek just turned 25 a few months ago, right? He’s a top pairing, right shot D. We needed that piece to complete our key core.

Is your hope we use that pick to hopefully draft a guy who will, in five years, develop into a player as good as Hronek?

If Canucks win all their remaining 18 games, they will end up with 95pts.

I wonder if that would be enough to catch a wild card spot.

:)

Team tank would be mortified if we somehow made the playoffs.

that would be a fun run to end the season, playoffs or not.

The idea that the team simply underachieved this season snd should do better next season would be a lot easier to swallow if we hadn't already seen this movie last year. I'm not ready to have my heart broken again.

So true. And that fear lingers in the back of my mind too. However this year was a gong show in so many ways, namely riding Martin and Delia, neither of which are NHL goalies IMO, and I just don’t see next year playing out the same way.

The main thing is that up until the arrival of two legendary defensemen on our coaching stuff, our team was playing horrendous defence. We still have lapses of course, but I really think Gonchar and Foote have worked wonders in fixing our D.

But the culture is a losing culture regardless if fans want them to lose in the final 25 games…

What is it you think we’ve been doing the last 10 years?

We have a chance to add an elite piece to a core that could do something special and we’re not supposed to be upset when the team all of a sudden figures out how to win when the pressures off?

If this team can’t put it all together I’ll always look at these 25 games and this draft as the turning point.

Exactly . the Canucks winning these last 20 or so games isn't going to change the culture of the team. If that was the case this team would have carried over their strong finish the previous season to the next and won more games instead of what we all saw the first 40 or 50 games.

Playing well in only the final stretch after playing so poorly earlier isn't going change the team's losing culture.

If Hronek is the final piece. They are in big trouble.

He is the final piece of the key core.

Demko, Hughes, Hronek, Petey, Miller.  That’s a great key core. Now we work on completing the supporting cast so the key core can attain their best.

You do know final piece and final piece of the core are two entirely different things right?

I see. I still think we need one more tough scoring forward but where can you find those? Everyone wants one those type of forwards. They are rare.

There are only so many "Core" to go around, everything else is either a supporting cast or role player.  The importance of the role player and supporting cast can never be underestimated!  I played as a supporting player in other sports, as I was never the best, but I've won a number championships in lower level sports due to taking on a role and being good at it, i.e., being a defensive specialist, penalty killer.

Yeah ... we have giving this core so many excuses over the last 3 seasons. Coaching, Covid, management, etc. All those things have changed or are no longer a factor and the team is still bad, in the end the core is the problem.

Sure. Those kinds of guys (like Miller) are not easy to get. But to me the key core is the five guys listed. Goalie. #1C. #2C. #1D#2D. A big, tough, scoring winger could be considered a key core piece too. I accept that.

Which is part of why Bo got moved for Beau and Hronek eventually and more moves will happen in the offseason.  The core has already greatly shifted.
