[proposal] UFA signing Jujhar Khaira

Recommended Posts

Just read this in a Daily Hive article:

Khaira was mainly a matchup centre on a brutal Chicago Blackhawks team last season. Despite a heavy dose of tough assignments and defensive zone starts, he actually had the second-best expected goals differential on the Blackhawks last season at 47.1%, trailing only Seth Jones

Sounds like he could contribute more on a better team. Wouldn’t hurt to add C depth for our bottom 6. Local guy with size that plays physical and is good on the PK.

SCOUTING REPORT

The big forward is at his best when he uses his size and strength to play a physical game, get in on the forecheck and make life miserable for opposing defensemen. He does not generate enough offensively to earn substantial ice time, but he can kill penalties well and bang bodies. Can play wing or center, which adds value.

Long Range Potential: Big depth forward.

To be blatant he's not good enough to be a 3C and play those important minutes, he's a good 4C on a non-playoff team, sadly that's about it.

I'd be going for a safe bet like Kerfoot or Kampf, or an outside bet like Sundqvist or Suter. Barbashev and Compher are basically top-6 wingers and will be too expensive and anyone else is too old.

Yeah, could see him on the 4th line, not as the 3C answer.

Ya some pretty scary ones. I love the player the way he plays, and I think having an Indo canadian would be great for the brand in this market he could inspire a generation of future players. But oof I don't want to see him have a career ender.

Arshdeep Bains will represent the south Asian community much better for the Canucks.

I think he would fit well with a team that had scoring on all four lines.  My instinct tells me we need a more two-way centre who can contribute goals rather than a defensive bruiser.

I like Khaira 6'3 -29 soon-- concussion issues last 3 seasons 40 GP - 27GP -- this past season 51 games

Would not sign for more then 900,000. LW/ C

I like Woods much more talented lots of grit but cost would be higher 2.9 million -- 28 soon - 6'2 LW gritty

We have so many wingers..Need  defence with grit to play with Hughes..

Graves- LD 6'5-- 28. -Like Graves great PK --# 4 guy - lots of toughness could play with Hronek..

With two major restricted free agents to negotiate contract extensions with in Timo Meier and Jesper Bratt, it’s no surprise that the New Jersey Devils may be forced to say goodbye to some familiar faces. Damon Severson, a quality blueliner with over 600 games played as a Devil, was traded yesterday and, according to recent reporting, another veteran Devil could follow him out the door: Miles Wood.

We already have problems scoring with our bottom six.  Adding a pure defensive specialist like Khaira would make that problem even worse.  We are not trying to make a cup contender overnight.  We are trying to make a playoff team with what little cap space we have left.  We don't need size right now - we need goals as cheaply as possible.  Miles Wood is great but we can't afford him.

Our pk is a bigger problem than lack of scoring from our bottom 6.
