If the Canucks aren't able to open up cap space by the RFA signing deadline, does Kravtsov by default become un-qualified and thus an UFA? Or can we qualify him without cap space?
-
The latter. The QO is due early July - it's just to retain a players rights and doesn't guarantee that he signs a contract or makes the roster. He's going abroad so he'll probably just pass on signing a deal. Vancouver retained Tryamkin's rights by qualifying him when he decided to leave - had no incidence on their cap situation.

Mark Stone “back” just in time for the Golden Knights playoffs?
-
I’m surprised we have not seen 2,3,4 excellent players sign for 1 year on the same team at a lower amount to win a cup. Imagine couple superstar Dmen in Edmonton signing around 1M for a season & a goalie.

Is cbj desperate enough for a centre theyd pursue Miller

how does boeser to chicago for connor murphy, a 3rd this year and our own 2nd in 2024?
-
Chicago are rebuilding and even tanking. They project their rebuild to last minimum 5 years and want to do it right this time. DeBrincat was younger than Boeser but was considered too old to be part of their future core.
Would expect them to want futures in trades for their players. They've signed several expiring UFAs on the hope to off-load them at the TDL.

Wrote a massive [proposal] then thought forget it - Ill see if mgmt actually does anything. I did think my Pearson to LAK (1 million retained) was a good idea tho.

Boeser for Klingberg, who says no?

FLA doesn't have a 1st round pick until 2026. Holy crackers.

CBJ doesn't have enough cap to activate both Texier + Jenner from LTIR, nvm re-sign Laine. What will they do?
-
They are already included in the cap figures - players on IR and LTIR count against the cap. They have just over 3M but a roster of 26 and a few unsigned RFAs. They have to demote 4 players just to be able to sign Laine and not exceed the 23 player limit. 4 players at near league minimum is already an additional 3M.
CBJ were already trying to move out a few players to create roster spots for their prospects - they have too many wingers.

has there ever been single NHL trade that included more than 9 assets collectively? Thinking of the Lindros and Gretzky trades.
-
10 assets for the Phaneuf trade between Ottawa and Toronto.
Also 10 assets involved in the 3-way trade of Brassard between PIT/VGK and OTT.
There were several at 9 assets - the Krueger trade between Arizona/Chicago and the Kessel one between Penguins/Toronto, the Duchene trade (3 teams), Karlsson trade.

according to freidman, canucks close to signing andrew brunette as a asisstant coach. no players.

Does anyone know a good source for zone entry and exit stats? I'm having trouble sourcing this data.

Anybody else would do a JT Miller - Aaron Ekblad swap? Florida have lots of good d-man, Florida need a Miller type in their top 6. Feel like it would address both team needs.

can a team have too many russian players on their team?
-
What is a country club player? I don’t get that saying.

The NHL's an absolute joke for posting this:
-
Would Weegar from FLA be available?
Cheap contract, great +/- .... probably to good of a deal for FLA to move

How can the Wild be so competitive yet still have so many good prospects?
-
@Dazzle the Wild had a terrible prospect pool under Fletcher. He had given up so many draft picks to improve the team at the TDL. The Wild’s pool was completely depleted when they hired Fenton ahead of the 2018 draft. He was replaced a year later by Guerin.

how much is Jaro Halak worth to the Edmonton OIlers right now?

hey mll - do you know, what is the earliest date that Miller can sign an extension?

could there be a trade with nashville?

The contract is backloaded. IE his cap hit has been higher than the salary he has earned so far.
The buyout cap hit is the cap hit less the salary savings. So the higher the salary left to pay, the higher the salary savings - which in turn reduces the buyout cap hit. **
Myers is under 26 so they only owe him a 3rd of his salary (after 26 it's 2/3rds). His salary is 3.8M - a 3rd is 1.266M and it's spread over twice the remaining length of the contract so 633K next season and the season after.
Instead of getting 3.8M next season he'll only get paid 633K which gives Nashville a salary savings of 3.167M. His cap hit is 2.55M. So 2.55M less the salary savings of 3.167M gives a negative buyout cap hit of 617K. Will be 633K in year 2.
It somewhat compensates for his cap hit being higher than the salary he has been paid up to the buyout - ie they had 2.55M on the books when his salary was only 1.3M.
** It's done that way mostly to avoid teams front-loading contracts - would be too easy for rich teams to artificially reduce the AAV by front loading the contract and then buying the players out a few years later. This way the lower the salary left to pay, the lower the salary savings so the higher the buyout cap hit on the years left of the contract. Myers is the opposite situation where his deal is backloaded but it's the same math and for him it becomes a negative buyout cap hit for the final year of his contract.
CapFriendly has a buyout calculator: https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/philippe-myers
It has happened in the past. Jared Cowen for Toronto had a negative buyout cap hit in year 1 at -650K and 750K in year 2: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/jared-cowen

could there be a trade with nashville?
-
@VancouverHabitant Don't see Nashville willing to take back Hamonic - too old, too expensive and not very good anymore. Poile has also never invested much in their 3rd pairing because their top-4 plays the bulk of the minutes.
A Myers buyout gives Nashville an additional 600K+ in cap space on top of clearing his contract. The buyout has a negative cap hit (ie it gives them more cap space) because of how the contract is structured.
Since Rutherford was hired in June 2014 there has only been the the Neal for Hornqvist/Spaling trade between Nashville/Pittsburgh.

@VancouverHabitant That's who I was thinking of with that last sentence. He can't get into their lineup with Hynes saying there are details to his game that he has to work on.
Part of that Ellis trade was also to clear his contract - Poile openly talked about how Ellis is the better player but feels it's important for them to start getting younger.
Wouldn't surprise me if they try and move Ph. Myers this off-season or just buy him out. A buyout could be the better solution rather than take back a bad contract.

could there be a trade with nashville?

Poile announced that they were entering a rebuild this summer - called it a competitive rebuild but now calls it a competitive transition to get younger and probably to justify extending Ekholm rather than trading him for futures.
Ellis for Glass/Ph. Myers and trading Arvidsson for 2x 2nds was part of that new direction to get younger. Don't really see Rutherford giving up the futures Nashville would want in a trade.
If they make a young player available it's likely because they don't think he'll become the player they thought.
