  1. My Grandpa served in WW2. To the best of my knowledge, he never returned. The details are sketchy to me as my mom doesn't talk about it much. I think about her today, and what times must have been like for those who grew up without their fathers, their brothers, their husbands, or their sons. You can't fault kids, teenagers, or even adults, in our present society for not knowing the true meaning or embodiment of the word 'sacrifice' as the times we live in are a direct result of the past sacrifice of others.

Both of my Grandfather's served in WW2. One was in North Africa (British), the other was part of the "Regina Riflemen, Canadian Engineering Corp". They both returned but very seldom spoke of their experiences, I do know they both lost Brothers to the war.

The sacrifices made by the thousands of brave men and women were spoken of today as my wife and I took our kids for a hike, to enjoy the freedom that so many died to preserve.

My Dad served in the Signal Corps in Korea. But what hurt him more. His Dad was bus driver. He was working on Remembrance Day. He had chest pains all afternoon at work. My Grandpa completed his shift. Walked home. Said to my Grandma, "He loved her and he will miss her, and it was great together". Died of a heart attack in his armchair.

Don't think my Dad ever got over that. That's why I was glad to be with my Dad in the end.

Thank you to those who shared their stories. Come to think of it, Joe has me thinking; I don't know how many veterans we have who post here. Thanks Joe for the sacrifice you made, and to anyone else who served.
