Who would you replace Miller with on the top line? Who is there? Jake? Louie? Gaudette? There is no other top six forward in the group.

Mike Babcock signs 2 year contract
smokes replied to Toyotasfan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I did not know coaching was a popularity contest. And in regards to players coming in bening out of shape, Have you been on these boards when Virtanen showed up at training camp out of shape or the Wellwood days? -
Why is Höglander so good? And can he win some hardware?
smokes replied to ImConfused's topic in Canucks Talk
Naw switch to vapes long ago. Cheaper and tastes better. -
I think Edler is basically the only leader left in the defensive corps so bringing him back should be a top priority. I don't see Myers or Schmidt as real leaders for our younger players right now. We will see what Benning says. I am just worried Benning is going to go on media and say signing Edler will be a priority because it means he is as good as gone.

The thing about Hoglander is I need to see him do a Michigan this year. I need it like I need air. -
[Discussion] Acquire Emil Pettersson's right from Arizona
smokes replied to 86Viking's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
So Sign Petey's older brother, tank this season and try to draft another hughes and then try to make a trade for Jack Hughes and Travis Konecny. Let's make it a family affair. -
Mike Babcock signs 2 year contract
smokes replied to Toyotasfan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
So half a dozen compared to how many people he coached? One says something so others will pile on. I remember Crow used to rip into Morrison in Vancouver yet he still has a job. Pat Quinn has been documented on his mistreatment of Bure and he has a street named after him. Babcock can't get a job? Really? -

Ex players? I only heard that from one player. An ex whipping boy. AV had a lot of whipping boys during his time in Vancouver too. If you can't take a thrashing by your coach, you are too soft to be on the ice to begin with. Torts still gets away with it now. -
Mike Babcock signs 2 year contract
smokes replied to Toyotasfan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
So how many players has he coached that did not complain about him? Everyone is going to have a hater, it doesn't matter if you are the nicest guy in the world, somebody is going to hate you. You can't please everybody so why does Babcock deserve to be banned from high profile jobs because somebody talked trash about him in an interview? How many people have said Brad Marchand is the most disgusting hockey player on ice, does that mean he should be banned from playing in the NHL? -

I guess I am in the minority, but I honestly don't think he did anything wrong. He just coached in his own way but at the end of the day, he got results. I have seen a lot worse in the corporate world. I am glad he is getting another chance in caching and I hope he gets another in the NHL one day. When you take the number of all the players he has coached in his career to the amount of players who complained about him, cancelling him doesn't add up. He just got caught up during a time where canceling coaches was a trend. Thank god Marc Crawford and some others did not suffer the same fate. Good luck to Babs. -
(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
smokes replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So we give up Madden for Toffoli, he almost gets a point a game for us, then we decide to let him walk so we can keep Virtanen, Then we give him a third of a season chance before we trade him? When we could have kept Toffoli and trade Virtanen in the off season? No, Benning needs to ride this out. I did not see Toffoli single handedly make us say uncle for a 1/3 of a season bet. You need to go all in on this one. -

Doesn't Sutter come off the books at the end of this year? Isn't Guadette suppose to take his place? -
Francesco Aquilini says "I have no plans to make changes."
smokes replied to AriGold2.0's topic in Canucks Talk
If I was Aquillini, I would be keeping Benning too. It's not like the Canucks are making money right now if at all so not resigning Markstrom and Tanev saves him a lot of money to the point that maybe he has a chance to break even. Benning takes the blame for it and deflects the criticism that comes from these cost cutting moves. He saves a little bit of money in the long term and Benning deflects the blame. Benning has his use. -
Boeser is my MVP this year but the fact that Pettersson or Horvat is not disappoints me. Hoglander gets my unsung award though.

Are people in the West being persecuted for their political beliefs?
smokes replied to a topic in Off-Topic General
I would say the fact that everyone can be heard nowadays on social media escalates things much more quickly. I grew up in the eighties where there was no social media and people would debate about their political views without too much judgement. There was never so much unrest back then as there is now. -
Are people in the West being persecuted for their political beliefs?
smokes replied to a topic in Off-Topic General
If you are loud and proud of your political beliefs, you will be heard but you will persecuted in the court of social justice. If you are quiet about your political beliefs, no one will care about your thoughts but you get to keep your reputation and your job. Which one means more to you? -
How is that legal?
-
Miller isn't the problem. Miller was just too used to Marky being back there. The fact that we have a good goalie instead of a fantastic save forty shots a night goalie is exposing our forwards defensive abilities.

The logic behind letting Tanev, Markstrom, and Toffoli walk
smokes replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
When I look at the players he lost and the personnel he has lost, I am thinking that he gets an F right now on the report card. If this team was winning that would be different but right now he is looking like he won't be around for a long term contingency plan. With the way the team is playing, the only thing we can do right now is look to the future. Benning underestimated Marky and Tanev's worth in the locker room and on the ice. Sure everyone can think a few years down the lo=ine Marky's contract is going to look bad but as of right now in his prime and how he used to save 30-40 shots a night. As far as Tanev...I don't know, when you look at the locker room and you see all the youngsters call a teammate "Dad"...you keep him. Then there is Toffoli. For cap reasons and the 4d chess part, I'll let that go as Virtanen is still cheaper. But still I just want to say. AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! -
The logic behind letting Tanev, Markstrom, and Toffoli walk
smokes replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
What you are saying though is not the logic behind this. We just beat the Stanley Cup Champions in the first round. We were at least favorites for a playoff spot. Everyone thought were were going to compete this year. Benning's logic was to hold off on Marky and Taanev and see if he can get hte big fish in OEL and ran out of time. I don't know what it is but it looks like Benning failed this off season. I agree with you 100% but what you are saying is just the silver lining. -
Canucks have lost faith in their coach!!! Vegas series big factor
smokes replied to koregen's topic in Canucks Talk
I think this speaks to the intangibles that Markstrom and Tanev offered
