Please keep discussion regarding coaching here (and keep it civil). What went wrong? Did anything go right? Is a coaching change needed?

Yes a coaching change is needed. It's pretty blatantly clear that even if AV is the best coach around HE CANNOT get this team to perform for him. President trophy winners aren't supposed to get bumped from the first round in a series that wasn't even close.

The coaches job is to prepare for the opponents, and make sure the guys are motivated and ready.

New system needed, and a new coach.

Good idea Stealth

IMO:
The core isn't going anywhere
There will be changes to the bottom depth players

But these same players, if given a different system to play with, could be much more effective than they were this year. And a player like Kassian will never flourish under AV's style of play.

When we got Kassian I think that was an indication that AV's time here was coming to an end.

Look for a change in coaches I believe

The two biggest failures of coaching were the defense (Bowness) and the powerplay (Brown) but I cant see those 2 getting canned and AV staying so yeah I'm guessing they will all be gone before next season.

could the time have finally come? I've been waiting for AV to move for 4 seasons now.. I appreciate the effort he's made, I just have never been a fan and I think the team needs a fresh set of coaches behind the bench. The PP was a disgrace this playoffs and I felt like AV was far too passive, as is his nature from what we've seen.

Time to start over with a new system and new look.. think it could do this team wonders :)

I dunno on this one, I don't like AV's lines but at the same time the players couldn't get open, couldn't get any shots through.

I blame the players as much as the coach.

I disagree. I think Hodgson and his agent knew AV was going to remain as coach and therefore that's why he demanded a trade.

I am just gonna say what I have said for almost 6 years: we have a slow learner coach with a high octane team, he loaths high scores, and would rather hope that he wins more coin flip one goal games than the other guys, due to his high calibre team. This is a blessing in disguise in that it affords MG the opportunity to change coaches while he still has the high profile core to come back with next year....side note: Raymond can join AV on the plane. My gas, no worries...the car is warm, go pack.

Booth barely earned the right to stay on the 2nd line, what was he doing on the twins line? Also, coach lost the first round with his healthy 5.33 million dollar cap hit goalie watching the game. I know I am in the minority on that one, but its still true.

The team was too predictable. Drop pass while crossing the blue and/or throw it into the opposite corner while using the D to pinch. All the opponents need to do with the Canucks was collapse to the night and box out anyone attacking..

When adjustments were needed they weren't made.

nothing personal about AV but a new coach is needed.

I fear our window is closing if not closed after this year, some moves will need to be made to make us a solid contender again next year, just my gut feeling on that though.

MacTavish should be in.

They need to play with more tricks in the book. They need to shoot the puck from the center, create funny bounces. They need to flip the puck to the goal to create soft rebounds. It seems like they are never able to pick up the rebounds. The logic is simple. The shots fired by Raymond are too slow to beat the goalie, yet too quick to create meaningful bounces in front of the net. The forwards need to get bigger because it is obvious that they get manhandled easily by the opposing D. They simply don't have the space because they cannot create the space for themselves. I thought they were lucky last year. This year, the inferior product really showed. How many times have you said "it was a brilliant play"? Not too many this year. They missed the IQ of Ehrhoff.

I think this team needs a more aggresive coach someone that demands the best out of his players and is willing to open his mouth and say something to his players rather than chew his gum the whole damn game

He is a great coach, but every coach has a shelf life (except say Trotz) But AV doesn't seem to have what it takes to get this group motivated or to the next level, there comes a point when a coach just is no longer getting through to his players, and that point may have been reached this season.

I'm sure if he isn't here next year he will get a chance w a team like Mtl, and there is a good chance he will be up for another Jack Adams after turning around a struggling team

AV's been outcoached many-a-times, even when the team went on to win the series (i.e. Chitown series of last year). He didn't like his matchups after game one, but hardly did anything to change it.

That and it still pisses me off that he changed a lineup that was gaining momentum near the end of the season. And then again tonight with Weise over Kassian. Even if Weise is the 'better' player currently, you should just keep the winning line-up gaining momentum, the Canucks clearly needed any they could get..

There's a lot of reasons I think AV should be let go, but those two are the most glaring right now.

He helped a lot of players reach their potential, but it is time for a playoff coach to lead the team to a cup (a la Savard to Quenneville, and Therrien to Bylsma).

Good-bye Alain Vigneault and Rick Bowness and maybe Newell Brown as well. Rollie stick around.

I don't particularly dislike AV like some do, but I can't see him staying after that. Who knows? As the Foo Fighters say, "Stranger Things Have Happened"...

I just think his time here is over. He was a great coach and did a whole lot for us, but he was outcoached on several occassions

AV has been great for us pretty much since he first got here, but its time to move on and try a new style I think. Coaches hardly ever stick around with one team as long as AV has.
