I remember reading about this guy in the hockey news when I was a kid. All the hype around this guy reminded me of the expectations...

I was sandbagging the shushwap shore line with his uncle and 2 cousins.
The family has a seasonal spot and the same place I do.
I never even put the 2 together till he brought it up, known the family a while. Had no idea that he was their nephew.

He never realy said anything, he just said it would be cool if he went to the Oliers, and I thought it was weird that he said that.

So I have jumped to a conclusion.

But I don't have Pictures so it never happened

So it's looking like he's passed on Van, as we didn't off him the kind of ice-time he wants. Obviously.

Um... no....I'm actually just old enough to remember.

I don't live in vancouver, let alone listen to any of their radio stations. I was coming back from Regina at the time that I read about this guy in the Hockey News. I remember the trip because it was ona greyhound and I was food poisoned and sick as a dog.
I recall the name and i remebetr it was about the time Adam Oates was signed as well, but not sure if it was with Detroit as well.

I used to live in vancouver, but was never a fan of Dave Pratt -wouldn't have wrote this if I knew he said something similar.

That is main reason for all the hub bub. Besides of course Schultz's big potential. Its like having a young Drew Doughty in your line up for two years at less than a sixth his salary. Which leaves you with still a ton a cap space for other players. And if he doesn't live up to the hype......ah fogetaboutit. No biggy.

Which means the puck is in Schultz's glove. He's already rejected the Ducks. He is looking for a team that he believes he can play the style he wants to play, and be given the minutes he wants. I just hope it all doesn't go to his head, IF he signs here.

The other big IF is how a young entitled star like that will get on with AV. Not well IMO based on AV's past brutal impatience behaviour with rookies. But I'm willing to hope AV can change his ways and that he's learned from the Hodgson experience.

Really?? Tanev seems to be doing fine with av

I think for the sake of argument that Vancouver is not really know for giving young players a lot of ice time early. Yes we have Burrows, Edler, Hansen and Schneider as our core of players developed under AV ( Tanev still not a regular) but over six years lets face it, it could be better. Kes, and Sedins were given ice time and a lot of it under Crow! How did that work out? Shultz looks to be a rare talent and I think most of us would love to do what it takes to get the kid in our system. He is not 18 and just drafted, but more of a sure thing then most at this age. I hope we don't lose a kid that obviously wants to play here for over paying another aging veteran with a very limited ceiling

Really?

Most people are fairly certain that Luongo will be traded. That will be 5.3 million off the books. Rome, Grags, Ebbett, etc. all gone....
,,,and we can't squeeze 3 million into the mix? Even with the Cap going up to 70 mil?

Call it the curse of being a consistent contender. Most of our draft picks are guys that need to be brought along slowly, Coho included. It would have been nice to draft a Stamkos or Tavares somewhere along the line, but the teams that do usually finish at, or near the bottom of the standings. (or they manage to fleece Brian Burke in a trade)

The Canucks bring their young players along properly, much the same as the Red Wings do. It's the casual fan who sees the success of a guy like Adam Henrique and believes that if we just gave our guys more ice time, they'd perform the same way. It's a nice thought, but it doesn't really have any basis in reality.
Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

agreed about the draft picks not being very high but I wish we would still give the younger guys more of a shot earlier. This would of course mean that we draft talent that could make the jump as well. I do hope Jensen and Kassian get a real look next year as they certainly have the makeup to potentially make a nice long term impact. Schultz appears to be that type of player as well, I just hope we can sign him and not lose him because he would fear playing in Chicago for a year.

It's cute that you are defending him, but Taylor, BMac and McLean talk about Staszak and Oates as college free agents yesterday afternoon and that is when someone suddenly remembers reading THN in 1985? I had a dream last night that Schneider signed a 3 year deal for $12M. Let's wait and see!!

The Sedins and Kesler actually also got limited ice time in their first years. Thy also had to work their way up from the bottom 6. In his rookie year, Daniel averaged 12:59 in ice time, and Henrik averaged 13:33. Kesler averaged just 10:52.
