Lonny_Bohonos_14
The timing is so odd. This *has* to have something to do with Luongo deal. Why timing just before CBA is signed?

Down by the River
Nonis doesn't exactly have a sparkling relationship with MG, what with MG meeting with the Aquilinis for the GM job while Nonis was still under contract. This *could* make trading Lu to TO difficult, but hopefully the two sides will put hockey over their egos.

Provost
Wasn't there some sort of issue a couple months ago of a "private nature" with Burke? Like sleeping with an employee or something. If he is fired for a non-hockey reason, then Nonis takes over for sure at least on in interim basis.

mr wicked
weather it was luongo or another goalie, there must have been a good deal on the table that burke rejected? so the leafs fired him before it was to late, thats my thought

TOMapleLaughs
So much for the biggest story of the new season being Luongo. Lol. If it wasn't clear before, it's certainly clear now: TO is a puppet franchise.

Down by the River
If Burke was taking a new position elsewhere, he wouldn't have been fired. By firing Burke, the Leafs will have to pay severance. If Burke had a new position, the Leafs could release him from his contract and they wouldn't have to give him anything in terms of severance. IMO, this is just a straight up firing, though at the oddest of times. My guess is that ownership wanted a new coach, and Burke refused to can Carlyle, so the Leafs fired Burke. Carlyle could get the axe soon too, though for me this all seems like odd timing.
