Goaltending was a big problem last night.

Missing some cohesion here.

If Edmonton beats Vancouver it is going to get hot pretty quick.

If your defense is impregnable, you will learn to transition from it, and create good offense.

If your defense is crap, you will blame the goalies, and find out later on in the playoffs that you can't score either.

Good defense is critical to everything.

BAD MOVE!!!

BAD FING MOVE

HAHAHA ANOTHER INJURED MORON ON OUR TEAM

HE WILL JOIN US IN 2019

Benning will be fired next year. Hope he enjoys screwing around for a few months. I just cant believe this. Another injured BC player. We just got rid of garrison. Seems like the canucks and linden just wanted any BC born player. Doesn't matter if hes good or not. We don't need another Linden to get us to game 7 of the Stanley cup and lose. We need someone to win us a cup.

5 million a year for Vrbata? 6 million for Miller? Kesler for Bonino and 24th instead of 10th pick or one of their top prospects? Garrison for scraps?

ive already lost faith in JB. Ive never EVER had this bad of a feeling about management.

Luongo was fine tonight. The problem is nothing more than a little rust after a long break. It'll wear off.

We had the lead, goaltending was not the problem tonight. We would have won had it not gone to shootout.

I can't get over how bad at "defense" our d-man are.. we should have a top-5 defense in the NHL easily... and so far they look like they all have no intention on playing actual defense and are more concentrated on jumping into the play and being offensive.. i think that falls on the coaching staff. I would love for us to aquire a good stay at home D man.. obviously that would mean changing the pairings up which the coaches probably wouldnt want to do.

"Offensive puck moving" defenseman. That seems to be the Canucks specialty.

Our defense is trash. We have 5 second pair defensemen and a rookie.

Luongo choked as well, he always fracks up late.

Lets not underestimate the loss of a steady defenceman that was Sami Salo.

Hamhuis is struggling a bit and when he is not going, Bieksa gets exposed big time. There goes our "top" pairing.

Unless you hire a lidstrom, your defense is not gonna get much better than what we have. Team defense, everyone committed to defense is the key.

But tonight was a better night, especially for about 1-2 mins right before the eberle goal, they had a flash of great defense then.

Yes Luongo was pretty good - and the defense is rusty - but the real problem is no 2nd, 3rd or 4th line offence. After the Sedins - we have three full forward lines of (average) plumbers. Yes they will get the odd goal and yes they will have their moments but there is no other offensive talent on the front end other than the sedins. Problem number two - no grit and toughness. Solution - keep hopeful that MG can inject some vigor & vitality back in this team - but that is easier said than done. It will take time....

The fans are the problem. Once GM MG trades them away, the Canucks will be fine.

Luongo played great, would have been 4-2 or 5-2 without him the Oilers were blowing by our defenders all night. Terrible

eberle's goal was pretty bad goal to let in. The Dmen played his position properly during that goal. That was luongo's fault. Luongo really sucks at shootouts.

You want to know the Top 3 issues facing the Canucks this year.

1 No Kelser and No Booth leaves the team in a shotened season seriously devoid of offensive talent. The Canucks are simply put on the short end of talent on offense most nights with those two guys out.

2.The divison has improved a lot this year. A lot of the Canucks regular season success over the past two years can be attibuted to the fact the Canucks played in a weak division which the Canucks took advantage of. However this year the Mnnesota Wild have improved immensly and the Oilers with one more year experience and Justin Schultz and they will be better too. Right now the Wild may be the most improved team in the NHL and may be the favorites to win the division this year.

3. The fact the most of the Canucks players didn't play during the lockout means they are one step behind most clubs. For a lot of Canucks the rust may not be off for another couple of weeks and by that time the Canucks could be well behind in the division given the condensed schedule.

What is the problem? Defence?

Goaltending won't be a problem when the goalies get their timing back, the goals tonight were pretty weak and Lu on his game would stop those all day. Defence was average, but the major problem has to be SECONDARY SCORING and it has been going back to the end of last season. Until Kes and Booth get back I'd rather the Canucks play to their strengths which is GOALTENDING and DEFENSE. They can play a style similar to Nashville which would limit all the odd man rushes because they wouldn't gamble as much on the attack. Let's face it our team as of now can NOT afford to run and gun with alot of teams so they might as well play SOLID DEFENSE and win games 2-1/1-0 until Kes and Booth are back.

If your defense is crap you dont make the playoffs

Capitals won the president's trophy with a crap defense. And by crap, I wasn't talking about columbus or oilers level defense either - for our standards of cup contender, anything that isn't above average or elite is an issue on defense.

And from a good defense, you can then start to fix the other things people think are issues - like offense, goaltending, etc.

HAHAHA! I like this, but in all honesty.. it is a combination of rust and getting to learn defensive partners. Chemistry is going to be an issue of the first few games. Get a grip people. were still 0-1-1. There is still 46 moar games!!!

The Canuck forward group is not a seerious CUP contending group right now. Particularly the 2nd line which does not have a single top 6 player on it. Booth hasn't proven he is top 6 either for that matter.
