What if Gillis could land the right prospect that Colorado would want in a separate Luongo deal?

True, that's another way.

Just to make it clear, $5m is crazy talk. He's had ONE good year, not three back to back to back 20g 60-75pt seasons like Kesler had.

Fair enough, but remember that's what Dater is saying the camp wants - Krejci money. Of course you always start big, but if the Canucks, theoretically went via offersheet, it would have to be significantly more than the 3.5 that Colorado has already offered. So the very least, it would be 4.5 and even that has a good chance of being matched.

That's the only way I could see a deal happening here. If Gillis could somehow pry Gubrandson or Bjugstad out of Florida for Luongo, then we'd have something they'd want.

Of course, if we got a blue-chip prospect like that, I'd be tempted to hold on to them rather than trade for another guy who needs a multi-million-dollar contract. We're going to be tight next year as it is.

Avs won't trade him. If they do it won't be to VAN. They would want young high end prospect + solid roster player in return. We don't have what it would take as we are short on high end prospects our selves.

never say never :D

They are thin on the blueline, i think given the opporuinity, Ballard is a top 4 on their defence.

I dont know if Gaunce count as a high end prospect but does something like Gaunce + Ballard + Malhotra for his rights seem fair?

Then offer him 5 years 20m.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Kesler - Booth
Higgins - O'Reilly - Hansen
Weise - Lappiere - Kassian

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Garrison
Barker - Tanev

Preety solid lineup.

Come be the #1 in Calgary!!!

Looking at Colorado's depth chart they need another D to play with Johnson or another top 6 forward

No, that's not fair at all.

Ballard holds nearly no value right now, Malhotra has his strengths, but is not worth his cap hit/role since his injury and is an upcoming UFA anyway, plus he has a NTC. Gaunce is a few years way at the very least and the Avs probably want somebody a bit more proven for RO'R, although Gaunce might be PART of a better deal as, the Avs currently have his brother Cameron in their system.

O'Reilly would probably cost Backlund and Brodie. Flames are too thin to risk that.

Don't think Flames have the assets to pull it off. Avs would happily take Giordano, but he has the NMC now.

O'Reilly seems to be asking too much,

and doubt Colorado will trade him within the division,

and I wish we could get him still :P

I wonder if DeNiro wouldn't want this guy because he's still in Russia? Heck, even longer than Kulikov was!!

O'Reilly had a huge improvement offensively last year, and has 4 goals/6 points in 7 KHL games so far this year. Which tells me he could be a 60-65 point center with huge defensive capabilties not unlike Kesler.. not to mention O'Reilly is strong on his feet and hard to knock off the puck.

I agree with D-Money, the Canucks likely don't have the expendable assets for the Avs, I would think they'd be looking for a defenseman or maybe a replacement center (Statsny - Duchene - ______ - Mitchell). If they ARE looking for a defenseman, MAYBE Tanev could be part of the deal, but how much value does he really hold in comparison?

Tanev, _________ + a 1st for O'Reilly?

But, I think a center is more prudent. If you look at the Avs after game 1 they basically only had 2 guys taking draws..RO took more faceoffs in general that any other player on their team last year.

We definitely need another center once Malhotra's contract end. Kesler is having injury problems so we definitely need another 2 way center of close to the same caliber. If we get R'OR, it pushes Lappy down to the 4th line and gives our team way more depth at the C position.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Booth-Kesler-Kassian
Higgins-R'OReilly-Hansen
Volpatti-Lappy-Weise

That 3rd line will definitely be a great shut down line and would give us another scoring line. Our 2nd line would just be scary with Kesler and Kassian.

I'd say we trade Schroeder, Jensen/Gaunce, Raymond + 1st for R'OR. R'OR is still young and can definitely replace H.Sedin at 1C once Sedins retire. I don't see Schroeder as a number 1 Center and we have to give in order to get something.

O'Reilly in a few years would make Kesler redundant if he were on this team.

i like your lineup, no raymond, no ebbett and no malhotra, the way it should be,

would play Kassian w/twins against goon teams otherwise play it your way....Booth-Kesler-Kassian would be a defensemens nightmare on the forecheck

If Edler is what it takes to get O'Rielly then I wouldn't go for the trade. (Yes, I know that we have to give up quality to get quailty but Edler is worth more to our team right now than O'Rielly is. Don't forget that Schroeder may be NHL ready soon but Connauton and Corrado are most likely at least a year away)

Hilarious...

I doubt he's staying in Russia cause he can make more money there. It looks to me like there'e some issue with him and management.

Maybe he's not happy in Colorado. Either way, I don't see us trading with Colorado.

Whats he making in the KHL ? you have to remember they dont pay any taxes

Colorado handed out 16 million over 4 years to David Jones, Ryan O'Reilly is a much better player then Jones. If they weren't being cheap with their offers, they wouldn't be in this problem.

O' Reilly is underrated IMO. Not only is he a good offensive talent, he's also quite a good defensive forward as well.

He would look great on our third line with Higgy and Hansen once Kes is back. And until then he can center the second line. Just the type of guy we need. Raymond, Schroeder, 2nd?

Living in Colorado - needless to say I'm a huuuuuuugeeeeee fan.

O'Reilly is very comparable to Kesler pre breakout year. Very disciplined, hard workers who's out to play for the team and the W not him.

Raymond/Ballard/Luongo/Higgins - all acceptable trade bait for him....crap I love Hansen and I'd swap them in a second.

He is a restricted free agent so we wouldnt have to trade anything. We could offer sheet him but im assuming that would just get matched by the avs.

And if you make an offer sheet and we get him I don't even want to know all the draft picks and stuff we would have to give in return. Offer sheets are almost not worth it unless its a proven star player. Does anyone know what we would have to give up. I forget. ????
