I read the other day a sports editor saying that if Malhotra's injury hadnt happened, they probably would have won the cup. I never thought about it like before myself but he is probably right. The Canucks were simply unstoppable when they had him in the line up at full force, prior to the injury. They were still great after but it had a huge trickle down effect on the entire team. His importance to their success that year cannot be overstated.

Well you can't win a SC without a good/great faceoff winner. Don't count Manny out yet.

I love the way some of you guys are always ready to right off someone who took a career threatening injury playing for this team and who gives so much time to the Community and yet others who seem less worthy get fawned over.

Heaven forbid your number 1 center Hendrick be able to take some defensive facoffs but that's has been another one of AV's problems. One that's really hard to figure out? As it was one of Hendrick's jobs before AV but then AV likes his defensive specialists.
Coaching has made this an issue.

What?

Before AV, Henrik was a young second/third line player that many people wondered would ever be good enough to be a top line player.

Maholtra has become a good 4th line centre;

- best face off man on the team
- good defensive play
- great short handed player

This is worth >1M and he should come back for that type of salary

Bob McKenzie's comments last night were a bit disturbing, about how Manny isn't practising with the team but is working out on his own. There could be a perfectly logical explanation but nobody seems to be forthcoming with one.

It may be nothing big but it is rather odd.

They'll keep him until the end of the year for his faceoff ability. After that, he may be retained if he takes a sizeable discount. Even if we don't, some team will pay him < 1 mil

I mean, we gave RYAN JOHNSON 1.1 million for his faceoffs, and Malhotra is far better at it.

As I recall, that salary was mostly for his blocked shots (which he excelled at).

Big supporter of Malhotra, but if he keeps playing after this year, I picture him entering the "Mike Keane phase" of his career, possibly becoming a semi-legendary player/coach at the minor league level. He seems to have a hard time keeping up physically these days. I hope he regains his form, but the odds are against it.

He will be resigned but for less. You people underestimate the leadership and character he brings to the team. Additionally, you can't complain about his faceoff and defensive abilities which are both huge for this team.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "great" short handed player as of 2013. Immediately after the shorthanded faceoff, you're probably better off changing him on the fly (at least so far this year).

Late in his career, Linden was still a great shorthanded player, but I have a hard time picturing Manny being relied on in a 5-on-3 situation these days.

The good thing is we can keep him and use him when needed this year because the cap is in our favor

With all the 'personal reasons' rumors, I'm hoping he doesn't call it a career quite yet...

If they leave I really hope they can pick up Marcel Goc during the off-season. He sounds almost like Manny at that point in his career (career 0.3 points/ game, strong 3rd line center with face-off and defensive abilities, though not physical), plus he plays captain for Germany and MG likes leaders on the team. He can also put up points in the playoffs (5 points in 7 games last playoffs) and he does all this at a bargain $1.7M.

Then (for the nerds out there) there's this article. Enjoy :)

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Jesus LOVES YOU!
2012, meet Matthew 24:36-47!

14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
